Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
Pre-Game
The bus carrying the Flyers rode through the gates of Titan country. Crowds of people swarmed about the home turf, all dressed in costumes. It was Halloween, and as far as rituals went, The Templeton Titans had theirs. After the game there would be a huge Halloween bash, but for now, there stood a huge bonfire with what looked like a manikin wearing a cape tied to the post at the very top. Firemen of course stood by in their fire engines, just in case.
“Well that’s messed up” Sam blurted as the team stared on at the bonfire, the bus coming to a halt in view of it.
The right side of the bus was plastered with eggs as a group of teens ran by, laughing, all dressed in costumes.
“Happy Halloween, freaks!” one of them yelled followed by another yelling Welcome to Titan Country.
This enraged the team, as they all got up from their seats and began to move to the front of the bus. Coach Waters stood up blocking the team from getting to the door.
“Save it for the field,” he yelled, getting the attention of the players, as they all looked at him, anger spread across they faces. He could tell that they were ready, and indeed they were. They had been playing as a solid unit the whole season, and he knew that this was the team that would definitely make it back to the playoffs, and definitely make it to the state championship. He was halfway tempted to turn their powers back on. The paperwork was what made him change his mind. The thought of the team wanting to dig into the Titans put a smile on his face, and he didn’t want to hold them up any longer.
“Don’t let them pull you in, don’t play their game; play our game, The Flyer game.” Coach roared as he looked about his athletes, a smile crossing his face as he told them to save the ass whipping for the field, the team yelled and cheered in response.
“WHO ARE WE!!”
“FLYERS!!” The team boomed, louder than normal.
“WHO!!” The coach yelled cupping his ears towards the team, showing them that he wanted them to get louder.
“FLYERS!!” The team yelled again, causing a group of people to stop and look over at the bus as it rocked from side to side.
“That’s what I’m talking about, baby!” Diyar yelled from the back of the bus.
“Get in the locker room and change over. It's time they knew the Olympians are here.”
The team roared in acceptance and Coach Waters lead them into the Locker room.

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
"But, mom! Please!"
"I'm sorry Aura, but really, this is not a good time."
Her mom's voice was unfortunately as clear as a bell through the telephone reciever. Aura clutched the handset to her ear, standing at the payphone in the girl's quad. She hunched her shoulders and turned to the wall even though the lower floor was empty.
"Mom, it's the football game! Against the Titans! I can't miss it, it's not fair!"
There was a note of exasperation and then a mumur that she couldn't catch. Probably her mom talking to some dumb client. A moment later the slightly frazzled voice reappeared.
"Aura Sunshine, I know that your social dynamic flows are important, but really. I need you to be at the store tonight."
"But mom, it's Halloween! Nobody is going to be...."
"No, Mrs. Hatfield, I'll be right with you. Just concentrate on red. Breathe in, feel the pure energy through your being... Aura, I don't have time to argue. Sherry is expecting you to talk over and I need you to do this. I can't make it, not with Mrs. Hatfield's reoccuring.... breath, Mona, breathe, move from red to purple now.... and it's just a football game, this is much more important."
Aura pressed her forehead to the cold plastic of the privacy hood. She swallowed. Not fair, not fair, not fair.
"Okay, mom. Okay."

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
First Quarter
The coin shined as it caught the stadium lights, and then landed to the ground. The Titan captains opted to receive first.
“Kick off team, on the field!” coach Waters yelled over the excited crowd of Titan fans as their cheering and applauding shook the grounds of the field. The Titans were a well respected team. Their head coach only being at the school his second year, took the team on a winning record until they had to face the Prescott Panthers the week prior, which resulted in a loss. They were hoping to bounce back from it by beating the Flyers. The Titan football club had an all conference receiver who was also their kick returner. He would be facing off against the slightly rusty replacement corner Damian “Dozer” Singleton, who showed that Coach Waters made a good choice moving him from the defensive end position to corner last week against the Mustangs.
Bryan Baxter stopped Sam before she ran out onto the field. “Boot it into the end zone.”
The kick off team ran onto the field, and Sam Douglas set the football up on the tee. She took her respectful steps back away from the ball before she raised her left hand into the air signaling that she was ready.
The whistle blew, quickly followed by the ball sailing through the air, landing deep in the end zone and caught by Titans kick returner/wide receiver Aries Clark, he was also ranked #1 in the conference for most return yardage and return Touchdowns.
Coach Waters grimaced when the ball landed in the hands of Clark. The speedy receiver took off up the field, spinning off of Darweshi Brown before he broke to the side line leaving Lucas Alexander and Damian Singleton in his wake as he ran a 105 yard touchdown.
“Dammit” Coach Waters yelled throwing his baseball cap to the ground. “Where’s the intensity, come on!”
The Titan sideline cheered as Clark ran into the end zone which signaled the band to play in return, the song sounding extremely familiar as their cheerleaders danced to the music.
“Is that…Thriller?” Bryan Baxter said laughing.
“Ok, shut that noise up.” Coach Waters yelled pointing over to the Titans side of the field. Remembering what the doctors told him, he calmed himself a little before telling the kick return team to take the field.
The Titans lined up for the kick, the percussion side of the band playing their instruments as loud as they could along with the crowd yelling, in hopes that they would break the concentration of the Flyers, but that would prove faulty as the ball landed in the hands of Flyer kick returner Kasim "Kaz" Moamber, who took the ball past the fifty yard line before he was taken down. The Flyer crowd stood on their feet cheering, but it still paled in the waves of the Titan home crowd.
“Offense, let’s get it back!” Reed yelled rallying his team to the field. He received the play from the coach, who wanted to keep it on the ground, to test the waters. The Titans proved weak in ground attacks against the Panthers the week prior and Coach Waters wanted to exploit the same weakness. Their corners and free safety were the ones that you had to worry about.
“22 straight up the gut” Reed said looking at the powerful fullback Oby. “On 2, on 2…ready?”
“Break” the offense roared in unison before taking their position on the Titan 45.
Reed called the cadence receiving the snap from the center, as he drew back, handing the ball off to DuBois. He hit the hole with force, right behind the center who took the defensive tackle off his feet, leaving DuBois and the middle linebacker who was already waiting. DuBois proved too strong as he plowed through him, bulling him over as he trucked for another 8 yards before being brought down by free safety Jacob Atlas.
It gave the Flyers a first down, but that would be the last they would receive as they would bring Sam out on the field for the field goal. This distance was easy for her; she was well within her range as she gave Reed the ok. What she didn’t expect was Jacob Atlas who had already begun to move as she ran up for the kick. Rushing he jumped over the top of the mob, barely deflecting the ball, causing it to fly wide past the up rights.
The Titan crowd rose to their feet in a roar as the kick was blocked. This game proved to be harder for the Flyers, they were going against the team that was tied with them for the number 2 spot.
“Defense” Coach yelled after the ball was kicked and the Titan returner was stopped. “Do not let them score!”
The defense took the field, and was more than ready. The Titan quarterback played JV the year prior where he dominated, throwing 115 completions for 175 attempts, 2,105 yards and 34 TD’s. Also, 7 rushing touchdowns with 453 rushing yards. He was quick, and his arm was lethal, and the Titan coach knew that he would carry them to the playoffs, as his stats began to rise this season also.
The defense huddled, Hannigan telling them to put pressure on the QB, and don’t let him throw; don’t even let him get to a sideline. He then looked over to Damian.
“Don’t let Clark out of your sight.”
The defense hurried up to the line to the Titan offense that was already waiting on them. The offensive line talking trash to the D-line and back and forth.
“You know you can’t keep up with me right.” Clark mocked Damian “I’m way faster than you freak boy.”
The QB Dustin Hades yelled hike over the crowd causing his offensive line to plow into the Flyer D. Darweshi Brown who had been reading the eyes of the QB the whole time, watched his steps as he dropped back, and yelled pass, to the Flyer defense, but it was too late as the ball left hands of Hades, streaming straight to Aries Clark, who made a one handed catch over Damian Singleton, before spinning off of him running into the end zone for a 85 yard TD.

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
Antoine watched the Titans score again, and spat on the ground. He rapped Stephen Reed on the helmet and pounded Bryan Baxter on the shoulder pads. "Come on guys, this is ridiculous. We're a way better football team than this crap! Bryan, I know you can burn their secondary up, so get on it. Reed, you got a cannon on your arm, so hit him with it." Oby grabbed McCarty by the facemask, putting the forehead of his helmet on the other boy's helmet. "You open up more holes like the one you just did, and I'm going to flatten anyone from the secondary that even thinks about stopping me!"
"We're Flyers, dammit!! Now let's take this game back!"

"It's just two, it's just two. We can get it back!" Sam called. The missed field goal still smarted, but she shook it off. Next quarter, they'd show the Titans for sure.
She glanced around the stadium. Most of the Titans fans were in costumes for the holiday. Cowboys, ninjas, pirates, and a guy dressed up as a hot dog. She smiled, remembering back to the previous Halloween parties at SJS. Joni dressed as Snow White. Bryan as a gladiator. Artie and Ves and her and Eddie as the Flintstones. It was always a blast. The stands seemed a little emptier without Tony, but Vic and Jules were there at least. Ves had her usual spot down front, being 4 foot seven made it difficult to see otherwise, and Sam took a moment to wave to her.

Holy crap, he's fast...
Diyar unsnapped his helmet, coming off the field at the end of the disasterous run. DuBois was hitting guys left and right to get them to wake up. He looked over to see Damian jogging off, his face contorted in frustration or rage or maybe a bit of both, Diyar couldn't tell.
He stopped before sitting down and moved forward toward him. "C'mon, Doz', get yer head in the game! You're faster than me, and I KNOW I can smoke that little [[CENSORED]]. You get him next time, right?"
Damian stopped for a second and glared at Diyar. Diyar stood, his arms crossed in front of him.
"RIGHT?"
"Yeah...if there IS a next time."
Diyar let himself smile a little. "Hell yeah!" he yelled, thumping Damian on the top of his helmet.

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
Second Quarter
Even though the Flyers were losing, the Flyer fans still rallied behind them, along with the cheerleaders, lead by Franky Cross and Brianna Landers.
The defense took the field again, as the offense came off scoreless. Hannigan, trying to pump up the D, motivated them.
“It’s not over yet ladies. We can still come out on top, just don’t let them score, come on D…lets dig into these clowns!” Hannigan roared, the defense moving to line up against the air assaulting Titan offense. The Titans knew they would have a better chance getting into the end zone by passing, and this could be Aries Clark career game. Damian couldn’t hold him. If they kept it on the ground however, they would have to deal with the Flyer D-line which was being strongly lead by Diyar Delevar at defensive end, and also the Linebackers who were always a threat, Hannigan and Brown, were two forces to be reckoned with. The other corner Lucas Alexander, outmatched the receiver he was lined up with.
“You still here freak boy, I thought I lit you on fire back there” Clark said smiling from behind his face mask.
Damian didn’t let his antics get to him as he peered at him from behind his tinted visor; he just had to ignore him.
Hades could be heard yelling hike as the O-line launched off the line of scrimmage again, this time attempting to push the line back, but to no avail as the Titan second string running back Eric Vinson plowed into the back of the offensive line trying to find a hole, before rolling out to his left in an attempt to break to the side line.
Diyar Delevar would stop his attempt as he broke down, thrusting his shoulder pads into the gut of the running back, then wrapped his arms around his legs as he stopped him in his tracks. The defensive end lifted him off the ground as he pushed him back 5 yards before drilling him into the ground. The hit echoed through the crowd, which seemed to be the first thing to shut the mouths of the Titan fans.
“Now that’s a hit!” Coach Waters yelled from the sideline, “’bout damn time!”
Diyar picked himself up off the running back, looking down at him shaking his index finger as if to say, don’t do that. The defense came up to Diyar slapping him on the helmet, congratulating him.
The Titans were now 2 and 15, and would definitely try to go to the air, Hannigan warned Damian in the huddle to prepare himself. This time however, the ball wouldn’t come his way, Clark would just take Damian out 20 yards, to take him out of the picture, as Derek Ceto would take Lucas Alexander on a post route, taking him 5 and in, across the middle. Ceto ran into the already waiting Biff Hannigan, who deflated the receiver when the ball touched his hands, causing him to miss the pass, giving Hades his first incomplete pass of the game.
Sam and Bryan winced on the sideline, along with the rest of the team, crowd and cheerleaders. They knew that hurt.
The Titans would attempt to go to the air again to try to get into the end zone, but it wouldn’t work this time. As they tried to go to their weapon, this time Damian was ready, along with Darweshi Brown. Damian knocked the ball from the hands of Clark as Brown laid one on the receiver knocking him out of bounds.
On that play the clock ran out, and the horn sounded, signaling Halftime.

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
At least half the people in the stands must have been wearing costumes. At first, Ves felt slightly out of place in normal clothes, but the excitement of the game had quickly drowned that out. Ves managed to catch Sam's attention as the team left the field. She waved with a broad, silly grin plastered to her face. Two touchdowns down didn't make for a good start, and it was already halftime, but the team could pull it off.

Halftime
(On Field)
Most of the cheer squad took a deep breath to steady their nerves. Playing to a home game crowd was easy. They could take the field and stand there, the crowd would still cheer. But away games? No matter how good of a show you put on, the best you could hope for was that they didn't out right boo or hiss. Hopefully today would be different. The Flyers choreographed something a little different just to suit the day.
The cheer squad pasted on smiles and hit the field, forming three lines. They looked out at the waiting crowd.
"Well, it'll be good practice anyway, ya?" Matt said to himself as the PA system began to play their mix.
Row by row they launched into semi-passable back hand springs, before clapping and stamping to the music in near perfect choreographed succession.
Surprisingly, the routine - a compilation of Halloween classics picked specifically for this game went over surprisingly well. They began with the hand springs, completing them with two snaps in time to the Addam's Family theme, then Thorn got a bit of a spot-light as the squad danced to a chorus of "Purple People Eater." Even the Titan's fans cheered as the squad mimicked the moves from Michael Jackson's Thriller, then launched into a shortened version of the Time Warp for the finale, complete with "domino" effect.
All in all, it was a decent success, even if Sister Mary Thomas did cover the eyes of the poor unsuspecting boy next to her during the "pelvic thrust."

(Locker Room)
The team went into the locker room all riled up, excited about their defensive showcase they just presented the Titans. Sure, they were behind, but they stopped the Titans from getting an even bigger lead.
Coach Waters paced back and forth outside attempting to calm himself before entering the locker room. He quickly changed his mind when he heard the cheering and laughing coming out of the locker room. Bursting into the locker room, he thought about flipping the beverage table, but changed his mind, it wasn't the janitors fault his team was getting creamed. So, instead he took off his baseball cap and threw it across the locker room.
“I don’t know why you’re so damned happy; you must not be at the same ball game I’m at, because the last time I checked.” He stopped himself, he didn’t want to yell, but he just let it out, at the top of his lungs “You’re down 14 to ZERO!” He said threw his clipboard against the dry erase board to his left for emphasis.
Coach Waters looked at the team whose expression went from happy to shocked, some showed that of deep thought and regret. The coach was right and they knew it, they could have had this game from the beginning.
“You ladies did exactly what I told you not to do; you played their game, and gave up a 105 yard kickoff return 4 seconds into the game. The first kickoff return scored on us this season.” Coach Waters exhaled, looking at his team again.
“It’s just like I told you last week, you have to take it, it’s not gonna be given to you. The Titans, they want it, they're taking it, but only because your giving it to them.”
“Defense!” he snapped, getting the attention of the defensive players, as their heads snapped up. “You guys buckled down in the second quarter, but not after Singleton let that Clark punk burn him for an 85 yard touchdown.” He said looking, then stopping his cast over on Damian, who had his eyes locked on him. “You remember our talk, you were hell when you played against us last year, and I want that while you play for us this year.”
“Defense” He yelled again, as though he was going to start a chant. “What does that mean to you?”
The defense looked at him, question on their face. Biff Hannigan spoke up saying that it meant protection.
“Yeah, and hard hitting, you know what it means to me!” Coach asked looking around “It means Iron Curtain; it means strength, destruction….power.”
“Offense” The offensive side of the team turned their attention to the coach who was now on them. “What the hell does that mean to you? We're not even on the board!”
“Scoring.” Reed spoke out.
“That and assault, attack, speed, the element of surprise, It means drop a freakin’ nuke on these guys!” The coach said raising his voice. You could hear the team begin to get a little more rowdy, the coach's words fueling them. Sam was even pumped up as she brought a closed fist across the shoulder pads of Baxter who was standing beside her.
“That’s what I want to see” Coach Waters said pointing at the team, then turning his index finger and extending his arm to the door of the locker room. “Now show it to me out there.” He said with a growl in his voice.
“WHO ARE WE” Biff yelled over the team.
“FLYERS” They roared back
“WHO” Reed called back
“FLYERS” The team yelled again
“Alright now let’s take Olympus from these wimps.” The coached yelled before kicking the door open and letting his team loose.

Coach Waters totally has a way to cut you off at the knees when he needs to. Sam thought to herself. But he does have a point, like always.

Oby trotted to catch up to Luke Bartel, and slapped him on the helmet. "Hey, Luke, Coach meant us. We have to watch for each other. You get the ball, I destroy the linebacker and get him out of your way. I get the ball, you do the same." Oby grabbed Luke's facemask and gave him a headbutt with a nasty looking grin on his face. "Hammer and Anvil, they'll never know what hit em!"

Re: Flyers Vs. Titans Friday Oct. 31st
Third Quarter
The Flyers kicked the ball to start the game, so they would receive after the half. They were more than pumped; they looked like a different Flyers team, fiercer.
The Titans lined up to kick the ball again, their band and crowd doing the same thing that they did during the last kick. The ball sailed through the air, to the Flyers 15 where it was caught by Moamber on the far right side of the field. He turned and ran to his left, drawing the Titan kickoff team to him just enough, to take their attention of Luke Bartel who was coming around his left, running the opposite direction. Moamber pitched the ball off to Bartel, who exploded towards the sides, cutting up the sideline just before the kicker made his way to him. Stiff arming the kicker, Bartel took the ball all the way up the field for an 87 yard kickoff return.
The Flyers fans jumped to their feet, cheering as the Flyers put more points on the board. Coach Waters sent Douglas and the field goal team out on the field to recap on the extra point. Sam threw her hands in the air as the ball flew through the field goal posts; the refs blew their whistles signaling the point after.
“Kick off team” coach yelled sending Sam and the team back on the field, “Don’t let up, keep pounding it down their throats; make them earn it!”
Sam signaled she was ready for the kick, and booted it as hard as she could, putting the ball once again into the hands of Aries Clark, who took off up the field behind the wedge that was made for him to block off the Flyers. Dar noticed this, and exploded right up the middle of the wedge causing Clark to change direction to his right leading to the sideline. Diyar was there waiting as he dropped hitting the legs of the receiver who still managed to keep his ground as he stiff armed Diyar off of him.
Stumbling, the all conference receiver tried to gain his ground, but not before a full sped, adrenaline pumped Damian “Dozer” Singleton came charging his way, connecting with him with a hit that knocked his helmet off.
The ball left Clark's hands and rolled across the grass, only to be scooped up by Sam Douglas who took it into the end zone. Throwing her hands into the air and dropping the ball she pointed to her friends in the stands as she screamed out. Touchdown Flyers could be heard echoing from the speakers as the Titan fans booed and the Flyer fans cheered.
Damian pushed himself up off of Clark, “I’m too much for ya.” He said pointing his thumb back at himself, before Diyar came and slapped him across the helmet, yelling Sam scored.
The extra point was kicked and soared through the field goal posts. The Flyers came out after the half scoring 2 unanswered touchdowns in the course of 2 and a half minutes. Coach Waters was happy, but he knew that his team could not get complacent. All they did was turn this into a game, they had to keep bringing the pain if they expected to win against the Titans.
Sam didn’t do the kick-off this go round; Coach Waters let her rest a bit after her touchdown, allowing the punter Bill Harrison to go out on the field. The kick didn’t go as deep as it feel into the hands of another receiver who hadn’t got much spotlight for the Titans, Derek Ceto, who took the ball to the Flyer 35 before being brought to the ground by Brown.
“Defense!” Coach Waters yelled again, “hold out!”
"De-fence!" The cheer squad clapped. "De-fence!"
The Flyers defense took the field for the first time in the half and they were looking to do the same thing they did in the second quarter. The Titan offense lined up on the line of scrimmage followed by the Flyers D which was being led by the team captain Biff Hannigan.
Hades lined up behind his center, looking into the eyes of Hannigan, and then smiled. He called an audible as he dropped back away from his center, his running backs splitting off from him, one on either side. Hades was now in the shotgun spot, while his backs were in split back. Not only that, Derek Ceto moved over to the side Aries Clark was on, stacking their right side.
Darweshi Brown traced him, following the receivers lead as he lined up on him on the other side beside Damian Singleton.
The audible threw off the Flyers blitz, which Hades was reading. Hannigan yelled out to watch the pass, telling the defensive ends to box out.
Hades called for the ball, as the center snapped it back to him, his running backs didn’t leave his side. They turned to protect him from the Flyers pressing D. Clark took Singleton out 15 yards then cut a slant across the middle of the field, Ceto doing the same with Brown, but for short yardage as he went 5 and across. Titan running back Eric Vinson would drop his pass protection to flare out to the left as Hades committed a pump fake in the direction of Clark, drawing the Flyer D. He then passed it to the open Vinson, who cut up the field, untouched and into the end zone.
The Titan crowd began to cheer but quickly stopped as they saw a yellow piece of cloth on the field.
“Holding, #57 Titans, illegal man up field #68 Titans, 15 yard penalty, replay first down. 1st and 25” The Titan crowd booed the Referees as the Flyers breathed a sigh of relief. The touchdown had been called back due to the Titans guard grabbing a hold of Diyars’ jersey. Their action didn't allow him to get to Hades, and also their center, being drawn pass the line of scrimmage by Hannigan, which was a smart play on his behalf.
“We almost bit a bullet there, be ready! They just lost yardage, and their RB’s suck, so they're gonna pass. That’s all they have, so blitz again. Singleton, Clark's all yours.” The Defense roared “destruction” as they broke out of their huddle and walked up to the 50 yard line to wait for the Titans.
The Titans came to the line of scrimmage, Dar yelling for the defense to make them earn it. Hades called for the ball, and dropped back as his receivers ran their routes. Briggs and Brown broke through the offensive line as they blitz on the unsuspected but rather quick QB.
Noticing the blitz, Hades, tucked the ball and ran to his left where a waiting Diyar Delevar would be. Hades smiled as he got to Delevar, spinning off of him. He showed his elusiveness as he broke across the line of scrimmage, and showed his speed as he left the linebackers in his wake, managing to break earning the 15 yards they lost, back; before being brought to the dirt by a charging Alexander.
The Titans quickly ran back up to the line of scrimmage as they were pressed for time. They had succeeded in running down the clock, but it now looked like that plan would backfire.
Hades lined up two receivers on each side, with no running back in the back field. The Flyers lined up coverage to handle the offense, sending both outside linebackers to cover the extra receivers.
Calling his cadence, Hades got the ball from his center, and dropped back a couple of steps. His receivers had already blasted off the line, running their respective routes. The flyer defensive line pressed through, and Diyar managed to get to Hades. But, was a couple of steps late as the ball left his hands, spiraling into the hands of Ceto, who was quickly taken off of his feet by Darweshi Brown.
The Titans were now at the 20 after the 15 yard completion. They pulled the same formation. The Flyers lined up once again to counter them. Diyar didn’t get down in a stance this time, he just stood ready at the DE spot.
The ball was snapped and Hades once again dropped back. Diyar this time blitzed even harder, de-cleating the tight-end as he ran full speed to the QB, who was turned away from him. Hades eyes were on making a connection to Clark, and Diyar's eyes were on his jersey number as he connected, hitting Hades from behind, taking him off of his feet as they both went to the ground.
The Flyers stopped the push of the Titans TD run, forcing them to kick a field goal on their fourth down. Which was good.

Kara and the other cheerleaders went nuts. "Go Sam!" They did all the flips and jumps that they could think of until the referees glares in their direction. Kara still shook her pom-poms, laughing and cheering.

"Way to go, Sam!" Ves cheered her friend on from the stands. "Did you see that?" she asked no one in particular. "That was GREAT!"
