SJS Dormitories: Special Habitation

The intent of this thread is to establish housing for those students who require special accomodations to reside at Saint Joseph School. If you feel that your character concept requires special restrictions on habitation, you'll need to petition for it here.

Groundrules:

1. This is for those students who could not otherwise survive without special environmental/magical, etc. concerns in a typical dorm room.
2. You may be asked to alter your concept if it is disruptive to the community as a whole, i.e. "I explode every time I have nightmares."
3. Trivial requests or questions about habitation, i.e. "can I have a pet" will be directed to the "Ask Mimi" thread.

[Bear in mind that your needs won't necessarily make it impossible for you to room with other people. The dorm rooms aren't that small, and can accomodate bed-sized water tanks, heating chambers, lead-lined sleeping pods... SJS has a pretty large budget, thanks to some hefty sponsorship.]

If we prefer, we can expand this to include those students who have special requirements in general, just as an "FYI" type thread.

[Until my account for Christopher Casey is approved and active, I am submitting this request that he be granted either a single room with no roommate, or be placed with a roommate who, when "sleeping" is entirely unaware and noncognizant. He would also, most likely, require accomodations equipped with some measure of electronic or physical security. Whether this security involves a measure of soundproofing would be up to the Powers That Be. He has recurring nightmares/night terrors that result in him waking in the middle of the night, often screaming, and is prone to episodes of somnambulism (sleepwalking).]

[Though I am lothed to give up Manas room he might be the only person that deal with this due him being robotic and having no metal sense and is almost fully shut down when sleeping. However waking up due to the screaming wont bother him (at first who knows ;) ) because he isnt actually REMing sleep. So if you wanted he can share rooms with Mana as long as he doesnt mind alot of plants and sun light and soft music and plants....*grins*]

((I was considering my character concept and thought I should clear it here.

So Gabe has trouble, on occasion, with voltaic discharges when he sleeps, nothing earth-shattering, but enough that it might be inconvenient for him (not others, he'll short out his own alarm clock, but wouldn't more than a few feet away from himself, even the bunk above him would likely be completely unaware it even happened). If that seems to disruptive I can tone down the voltage level, or simply have him quickly learn more control, but since it's sort of a part of his concept, would there be any special clearance needed for simply a conductive blanket? I envision it being like an electric blanket and matress-pad combo connected to the ground pin of a nearby outlet. His electrical ability is very high voltage, but very low amperage (so the net power is probably less than a 60-watt lightbulb, think like a taser: high enough voltage to disrupt a villain's nervous system, but not enough to burn them electrically), so I don't think any more would be needed, is there any sort of special clearance he'll need? do you think that will be disruptive? I don't really envision it as such, but I'm willing to make any suggested alterations in the name of group sticky. ))

I don't think it would be an issue. Typically "special habitation" would be for students who require a specific atmosphere or the like to function within society at all.

((I figured as much might be the case, but I hesitated because of the "I explode everything I have a nightmare" clause above (only in this case replace "explode" with "become a human battery") and I just wanted to double-check. Thank you.))

Ehh....that just means that you shouldn't room with Mana anytime soon...just in case.

Last thing this school needs is him shorting out and having wires get crossed again.

I've been having to live under a heat lamp... a heated special dorm would be nice...

Unfortunately at the moment, girl's rooms especially are at a premium.

I think for merely needing a climate controlled sleep chamber is not a problem to fit into a room with roomates and would not require a personal room.

If Joni, who would freeze herself solid can have roomates, Valerie can make do as well. :)

As a genetic creation Kaimera is unatural and far from perfect. Nature does not take kindly to this and thus, there is always a chance that she could mutate further. To prevent this she has to sleep in a tank with lots of fancy machines. As Mimi suggested a long long time ago, this would most likely be located in the science wing. And would be funded by the Longbow and not the school itself.

Also (with permission) Shiela, a longbow scientist and her personal doctor would like to live on campus so that she can monitor her at all times (remotely when she is not in the room).

Edit: I just had another idea. What if Shiela were to volunteer as a science teacher so she has something to do during the day and to allow her to "earn her keep" in order to stay at St. Joe's? Maybe this should be in a seperate thread, though.

I have added Kaimera's room assignment to the Dormitory Listing thread.

I'm not sure about the on-campus housing for Sheila. While I don't see it being a problem for the school to house a medical specialist if a student's well-being required it, I have to question the actual requirement. If Kaimera's condition is so unstable that her doctor needs to be kept on campus 24-7, then I can't imagine that she herself would be allowed off-campus (to go on patrol, for example).

I'll get back to you on that one.

Thanks Erika!

Well it is not neccessarily that she has to be on camps 24/7 but it certainly is much more convenient for her. At night when Kai is sleeping is when she runs most of the tests and diagnostics. As for during the day, The machines would need regular maintenance so she could take care of that as well. And for the rest of her time, as I suggested she could be a volunteer science teacher or something of the sort.

Shiela is an important part of my story and having her on campus makes things alot easier, however I see your point and if it is unacceptable then I will simply find a way around it.

Perhaps I should take this subject over to the NPCs section?
