Mr. Masamoto Asumio - Equilibrium Dynamics

Mr. Asumio is one of the few teachers that strictly teaches power control in Saint Joseph's, albeit on a part-time basis. He's of Asian descent, quite short (maybe 5'5") and very stockily built. He looks like he must do weight lifting in his spare time. Although he always wears long sleeve shirts, one can see sometimes get a glimpse of tattoos at both wrists, visible occasionally under the band of his watch. One kid says they go all the way up his arms but nobody really knows for sure. It's definite that on bright days there does appear to be ink on his arms although what the tattoos are of, nobody really knows. The circulating rumor is, of course, that Mr. Asumio is Yakuza.

He teaches classes for those kids that channel or distribute energy in any way. His ability is to "see" energy flows at the cellular level and to transmute them. He can't dampen power like the Coach can, but he can take a dangerous buildup and route it into something less dangerous. Because he can see what's going on, even though his students can't articulate what's happening inside them, he can use a form of feedback loop to help his students gain conscious control of their specific power.

His usual trick is to take kinetic force and create light from it, draining the student and dissipating it harmlessly. It works the other way too - he can encourage the potential in someone else, causing overload. The combination makes him hard to surprise as he often seems to know which way his students are going to react before they do. In the regular populace, he's the guy that seems to always know when a plate is going to fall and to catch it before it hits the ground. He would also be a tough bastard in a bar fight.

During good weather he teaches his classes outside in the middle of a cleared field - during inclement weather he teaches in the Athletics Center. His classes are never more than four students at a time and sometimes only one depending on the mutation. A current student rumor is that he once got in trouble for being alone with a female student but nobody seems to know any details.

He studied to be a doctor at one point in his life, dropping out about four years into his studies. Unbeknownst to the school administration, he runs a hole-in-the-wall health clinic in King's Row under illegal license. He plays guitar in his spare time.

Mimi, let me know if this write up doesn't meet whatever hazy notions you had for "superpower" teachers. I've been using Mr. Asumio as a reference forever but this is the first time I've tried to nail any details down.
"So pay attention to me; I don't talk for my health."
"I want you on my team."
"... So does everybody else."
