In comic books, time doesn't play out just right. If you have ever read more than a few, you know this. For those of who you don't know this, let me give an example:
Take a comic like X-Men or something, and realize that the writers only get 25 pages a month to progress their storylines. So whatever, Jean Grey and Cyclops go to dinner. Then a whole month goes by before Wolverine can get snarky about it and fight somebody. Then he's in the hospital getting his bones removed for two issues.
Meanwhile, time in the real world marches on, and often, the comic reflects that. Presidents and nations change before Jean and Cyclops get another date. But even though the Soviet Union still existed on their first date, and didn't on their second date, the comic book ignores this: Scott and Jean are only on their second date, and the passage of real-world time is unimportant.
So, time is wonky in comics. Yes, yes. Get to the point.
Every spring, we draw near to the "end of the school year." But no one to my knowledge would like to be forced to 'graduate' if we decided to say that a school year was actually ending. So what do we do? Wonky Time. SJS needs and thrives on Wonky Time.
We ignore the passage of time while it seems like we aren't. Which is to say, life is one big perpetual school year, even though the Spring Fling follows the Snow Ball. Time passes but it doesn't matter that it passes. I tend to think of it the same way I think about the fact that in a single afternoon I can spend an in-game week of days and nights doing something. Days and nights only last about a half-hour in-game; no one wants to pretend that a conversation takes a week!
It's all about Wonky Time.
Scott Summers is still in his mid-thirties, even after the last 40 years of X-Men (they started in the mid-1960s, yes?). Bruce Wayne doesn't look 90 to me. It's all thanks to Wonky Time!
Long live Wonky Time! A long eternal afternoon of youth for our students!

Wonkytime Addendum (or, Wrap Your Noodle Around THIS)
Wonky Time knows no boundaries. It's like the Force. It surrounds us and binds us and holds the universe together. And it's flexible. In fact, it is so flexible it can make your head hurt. Wonkytime is so flexible that one character can get older and graduate from Saint Joe's while another does not age a day.
I'll say that again.

We all need to respect Wonky Time. If you question it, it starts to fall apart. It's just that simple. In fact, please ignore the title of this post, and don't try to wrap your noodle around this. Just let it happen. Just let it surround you and bind you and hold our universe together.
