The Elegant Ladies: Auditions

Post by Sweet Magnolia »

[An announcement printed gold leaf on white parchment, laminated professionally, posted at various locations around the school:]

Great musical vocalists such as Amy Winehouse, Pat Benatar, Christina Aguilera, Adele, Joss Stone, k.d. lang, KT Tunstall, and Janelle Monae credit the inspirations of their musical styles to the influences of the great ladies and girl groups of motown, rhythm & blues, blues, and jazz: Etta James, The Shirelles, Sarah Vaughan, The Ronettes, Billie Holliday...the list goes on.

The Elegant Ladies is not just another girl cover group. It is a tribute musical assembly paying homage to those pioneers of music whose quality and style has continued to shape women's successes in the entertainment and fashion industry to this day. With innovative and modern arrangements of classic standards, The Elegant Ladies represent the next generation of female vocalists rising to the fore of American music.

The Elegant Ladies are looking for female vocalists, 15-18 years of age, of impeccable moral behavior, immaculate appearance, and excellent scholastic achievement in present attendance at Saint Joseph's, who are familiar with, or would be willing to learn, songs in the jazz, motown, blues, doo-wop, and R&B genres. Candidates are assumed to have had some background vocal and dance training, as rehearsals will require the ability to sight read music and learn synchronized performance choreography. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate their aptitudes in these prerequisites in their audition. Candidates will be evaluated in three stages: interview, vocal audition, and dance audition.

Members of The Elegant Ladies are expected to maintain acceptable wardrobe requirements in abiding with The Elegant Ladies dress code for performances, to be determined and subject to amendment by performance.

Auditions will begin Wednesday, October 1st, at 4:00 PM (location to be determined). Scheduling applications may be found in the Library, or submit an online application to the "The Elegant Ladies Tryouts" link found on the Saint Joseph's Music Department page. Please contact Del Sweetwater for more information at: sweetmagnolia@stjosephsrhodeisland.com.

A grin crept upon her face.

This sounds like fun!

Cammi's eyes glanced over the poster on the wall, making sure she had a chance before she made contact. Since she couldn't get into the Cheer squad, at this point. Might as well try this on. At least she could dance to something and with some one other then Pocket D, which was a little questionable at times out of the few times she'd been there. She pulled a few strands of the fading pink hair dye and pondered if it would be okay as she scribbled down the e-mail address.

I doubt that Pink is part of immaculate appearance.

Lucius chuckled.

I still don't understand why you do that..It seems like a waste of time.

Cammi groaned softly as she wandered the hall to find the library in order to use an computer to send the following message.

To:sweetmagnolia@stjosephsrhodeisland.com.
From:DumkeC@gmail.com

Dear Del Sweetwater,

I am Cammi Dumke, I'm fairly new to the school and I would love to try out for the Elegant Ladies, and I look forward to the auditions. Please keep me updated on this. Is their a audition piece you'd like for us to sing or do we prepare our own number?

You can contact me at DumkeC@gmail.com or call me on my phone. 801-971-1830 (its long distance.. haven't gotten a new phone yet.. Sorry!)

Sincerely;

Cammi

She hit the send button, grinned and stood. Quickly fixed her hair making sure it was still in place as she entered into the hallway once more. If anything she might get a new friend out of her efforts.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask in god,
that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;
and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith,
nothing wavering.
