Power Ball Tryouts

[Annamarie]

Anna tossed her gym bag as she walked into the gym, watching it slide until it hit the stands. She took a look around, taking in the room that she was to be stuck in for the next several hours. Recently cleaned floors, all lights working properly, the stands seemed be pulling out properly...

Yup, nothing was dirty or broken. This would do.

Anna snickered as she heard a few grunts and some swearing behind her.

"D! What're ya doin'!?"

Damian grunted as he tried to slide the table through the door. " It won't." Another grunt. "Fit!"

"You're doing it wrong!"

Damain dropped the table in frustration. "Fine, you do it."

Anna snickered. "Fine, I will!"

Twenty minutes later, after many failed attempts at getting the table through the doorway, the two figured out how to turn the table sideways and slide it through the doorway. Once they'd gotten through that trial, and the table was set up, they came across another... self-induced trial. Clipboard in hand, Anna patted herself down, sighing. "Oh Sh....".

Damian groaned. "What now, Aqua girl? Did ya lose the chairs?"

Anna mocked him, rolling her eyes. "No, smart-ass, I... can't find the keys to the utility closet..."

Snickering, Damian dug them out of the pockets in his shorts. "Close one, but I saw you drop them on your way here. I thought 'bout tellin' you, buuut..... decided not to." He ducked as the clipboard flew over his head. "Hey!"

Anna snorted, walking across the gym to retrieve the makeshift projectile. "Just get the damn basketballs out of the utility closet, 'fore people get here!"

Damian checked his watch. "We've got half an hour 'fore anybody'll be here, calm down. Geez, you're naggy."

Anna considered chucking the clipboard back at him as he walked towards the utility closet. but decided against it. "Whatever, just don't be crying like you are now when my team beats yours!"

An emphasized snort coming from him made Anna snicker. "Only if you cheat, Aqua girl, and even then, you'll probably lose!"

It was gonna be a fun game... but first, of course, would come the tryouts.

(( Alright people, our time limits on this are kinda tight so let's get this up 'n' running! These are the tryouts for the Power Ball game! Damian and Anna are the Captains, and they're holding joint tryouts, where they'll break up the 8 players that make it amongst the two of them. You may post about getting ready and everything if you want, but all that's required is that you post what they do in the gym . The sign-up sheet will just be their names, the general gist of their powers (Water/Ranged for Anna, Electricity/Ranged for Damian, etc.), and the position they'd like to play, if any. Also, feel free to post something even if the person in question isn't trying out! Have support groups, have hecklers, do whatever (so long as you're not interfering with the actual tryout drills and such)! Just have fun, and lets get this thing going! ))

"I am totally crazy. I dont even like basketball."

Lina sighed as she eyed the reminder note she had posted on a small corkboard by her bed, while grabbing some gym clothes from her dorm.

"I mean, I dont even get why Damian asked me to try out, does he really think crazy illusion magic would benefit a team more than not?"

She glanced around, eying her stuffed chocobos and moogle dolls, all of which just stared cheerfully as to say "You can do it Arly!". Lina took a moment or two, sighed again, and stepped out the door to head to the gym.

"Well, I guess the worst that can happen is I flunk out"

She giggled and skipped down the hallway, eventually arriving at the gym and grinning wide to the team captains.

"Hiya Anna, hey Damian. Signups open yet? Cuz I am so totally here to be point guard. or towel boy. or Mascot. "

[D. Planet]

Mal walked in, pulled up a folding chair, and sat down next to Damian.

"OK, man. I'll be frank....I wanna try out, but my shooting and running...isn't so good. I can dribble all right..." He thought for a minute. "Is there some kind of defensive position I can play? I'm pretty good and taking hits and knocking stuff down...guess that's not that great for basketball, huh?"

[Damian Singleton]

Damian smiled as he looked over to Mal. "Actually dude, ya could play center. I mean you ahve to be a little agile...then again, not too much...Look at Shaq."

Damian sat back in his chair folding his arms. "If you can take a hit, you can take a charge...if you are good at knocking things down...hey, you can knock the basketball out of the sky when someone shoots it."

[Nick Schneider]

Nick blushed inwardly as he stood outside the door to the gym. He was in a loose-fitting workout attire of athletic shorts and a workout shirt which technically was not under-armor but was way too small for him and could easily mistaken for one. Having seen Damian talk about the new sport coming up, along with the fliers that had sprung up in the halls, Nick's heart took a slight quickening pace. A game in which powers were okay...

Is this even a good idea? Trying to play a sport when I can't even hear anything? How would that work for team unity? What a great idea there Nick. Play a team sport in which you can't even communicate with the team...

The nervous boy frowned, still standing outside the doors, not sure of he was going to go in or not and still wondering if it was a good idea. If he had his powers, he could not only communicate on a basic level, but also do a good deal of deception. Then again...he might just get in the way.

No...I need to do this...I want to do this. It'll help me make more friends....Aunt Peg said that sports were a good thing for young boys to do... Swallowing, Nick put his hand on the door and pushed gently, starting the inward swing. Besides...Damian is there...that'll help. He'll help. He always does. Taking a deep breath, Nick pushed the door all the way open and walked towards the sign up sheets, red in the face, but walking with a phantom degree of confidence.

[D. Planet]

Mal nodded. "That's one thing I can kinda do! Jump, anyway. I've been good at jumping ever since I had the suit. Well, I'm up for it unless you find someone better."

[Brandon]

Brandon walks in with an easy smile, wearing a tank top and loose shorts. He walks to the front of the table and stands, confident and relaxed, nodding to everyone in the room. He turns his attention to the two team captains.

"Hey guys. I'm Brandon, met you both before, of course. Basketball isn't my main game, but I DID make the junior varsity before I came here. I'm a good runner, and I'm pretty good at passing and layups. I play the team, no hot-dogging. I'm not the tallest guy on the court, so I played point guard in St. Louis, but I imagine I can play whatever position you need. My fire might not be a whole lot of good, but man...I'm FAST."

He grins and goes to sit by Mal, clapping him on the shoulder and saying, "Good to see you out here, man."

[Roy Cale]

What am I doing here?

Roy peeks into the gym, wearing what he'd normally be wearing as it really makes no difference to him either way.

Oh yeah.. Cause Damian managed to talk me into it..

With a heavy sigh he steps in, waving a little to the people already there.

"Hey guys.. I'm not late am I?"

[Damian Singleton]

Damian looked over at Roy as a smile crossed his face. He spent a bit of time talking to Roy to get him to come and try out, and he was happy that it all turned out well.

"Naw bro, your not late. We're just waiting around to see who else is gonna show." He looked at his watch, "We still got some time to wait, what do you think Aquagirl?"

[Annamarie]

Anna shrugged, checking her watch too. They should probably get started soon..... but no rush.

"Sure. Lemme make a few phone calls, see if I can get a few more people to swing by."

[Thunder Cascade]

Casey wanders into the gym wearing his gym clothes. "Hey, people. Sorry to show so late. I'm totally interested, if there's room. I'm not so great at basketball, but this seems like too much fun to pass up."

[Taylor Blevins]

Taylor, in his human form, lopes his way through the gym doors and across the floor, wearing big, baggy shorts, sandals, and a loose, slightly grungy tee.

"I make it in time?"

[Damian Singleton]

Damian looked at Taylor when he approached the table. His face blank as his eyes were directed at Taylor's feet.

He looked back up at him then over to Anna who pretty much was looking at the same deal. "Naw dude...ya not late. But, I don' think ya want to be playing basketball in sandals."

[Taylor Blevins]

Taylor grinned, a surprisingly wolfish gesture.

"You're right. I'll be barefoot eventually. I'll try not to leave any claw marks in the wood."

[Lagomorph]

Matt trotted into the open gymnasium, wearing the shorts and t-shirt he often wore for cheer squad practice. He approached the table.

"Hi guys! I'd like to apply to join a power ball team!" Matt grinned. "Rabbits are all sorts of good at moving fast and jumping high, ya?"
