Headmaster
Okay, people... our Headmaster.
We've been dodging the issue for over a month, and it is time to actually have a discussion about it.
Here are the questions we need to answer... I welcome more suggestions.
1. Male vs. Female
2. Superpowers vs. Totally Normal
3. If he/she has superpowers, is he/she famous, like from the canon or the history?
4. What sort of Headmaster is he/she? Is he/she mysterious to the students, or do we have a closer relationship?
Anyway, I would like us to talk a little about it. I want this to be more of a consensus for us all to decide on.
Thanks!

I think it should be a He.
I think he should be entirely normal.
I think that he should not be mysterious, but that he does not take a part in our lives on a regular bases.
He should be a guy who saw super kids being treated poorly and wanted to do something about it. Though he himself cant exactly relate to the students so he hires like minded staff to work directly with the students and make their lives better. He keeps the bills paid and the school running. A long time ago he met father Bob, a man who he saw bring hope into peoples lives. He decided that with Father Bob's help he could make a place where students grow. The Headmaster is the man who started it all, other than the nuns that are appointed to the school and the occasional donations that the church makes. The Headmaster has used his cinsiderable resources to make it all work. He is driven and certainly motivated, but not unkind. He loves the students and wants to help them even though he doesnt not believe he can do it directly.
Anyway, just my thoughts.

Okay. A couple points to frame the discussion.
In character, SJS has been around for like 80 years. It was originally founded by nuns of the Order of Cupertino for "exceptional young women," but about 35 years ago, during the late 60s or early 70s, the school went coed.
Whoever our current headmaster is, he/she is just that: the current one.
If anyone is interested in contributing to a thread about the school's origins, I will start one this afternoon.
For the headmaster discussion, we should be talking about someone who was willing to step up to the challenge of leading a school in the wake of the Rikti invasion (during which, I imagine, we probably were shut down and may have lost some students).

I would think it would almost be a given that durring the peak of the invasion that some of the older more mature students stepped up and helped fight off the Rikti.
Jaygo would have done so in a quickness, and beena memory for his effort, but when things are bad who's to judge when somthing isn't worth trying.
So lets assume, and maybe even elaborate on, the fact that some of the students at the time did fight (and die fighting) the Rikti.. I also agree that having a real go getter type as headmaster.. It would make sense. I think he would understand the need for a school like this and make it his mission to make sure it reopens, and stays open, so that students could learn to master their abilities for the betterment of Paragon, and humanity as a whole.
we could add in some flavor, like a family lost durring the invasion( everyone lost someone).. maybe that's a driving for for him.. trying to help stop the next invasion today.

I agree that the Headmaster should be male, older, and normal. He became involved with the school after the invasion but has always been Catholic...possibly even a monk. He was so moved by the bravery of the superhero fighters during the invasion (possibly he was saved by a superhero who was killed and left a child behind)....in any case he vowed he would see that all "super" kids had a place to go...no matter what. St' Joes was just the place he could ensure the well-being of super-kids and serve his Catholic faith.
Just my 2 influence...

I agree with Mimi. The headmaster should be like bruce wayne. He has a lot of money and wants to do good with it. The Headmaster funded Father Bob's operation because he was already doing a great job helping people.

Well, we already have a religious figure, just not the headmaster. Father Bob is the one who founded the school a long time ago....
Do we want to say he is super, and still alive?
I think that we should have a figure head that is Catholic, but, this is a private school, to chances are that somebody else owns it.

We could say, hypothetically, that since the Rikti war the Vatican has taken an interest in the diocese of Paragon City. If St. Joe's is still a part of the Roman Catholic Church, they may not have much of a say in who gets appointed to be the headmaster. If he/she is a layperson, there would be another figure who is a member of the religious to serve as an assistant/deputy headmaster.
I think having a Father (insert name here), S.J. as headmaster or assistant headmaster would be cool. And not only a Jesuit, but a telepath as well. He would not be openly "superheroic"-- telepathy can be an extremely subtle discipline-- but it would allow him to tell if any of his students or the faculty have been modified by/are Rikti. Likewise, Rikti being mentalists themselves, he would be in a position to protect the students better from any undue telepathic influences.

My two cents.
The RC church has always had one of the best and fastest intelligence gathering services in the world, and it would be very short-sighted and unlike them to not take advantage of a situation like this.
SJS would be a perfect opportunity not only for them to possibly recruit some soldiers to fight on the side of Right and for The Glory of God, but a prime opportunity for a priest with emerging superpowers to gain control and experience in using his powers.
I see a headmaster in his early to late 40s, who has only mild superpowers [1] who has a couple of younger priests in their late 20s who are learning both to watch over a flock as well as control their powers. I also see a headmistress, probably Emp/Psychic Defender who assists the headmaster in the running of the school. He looks after the school itself, the operating budget, maintenance, hiring new staff, interactions with PC. She looks after the day-to-day running of the school.
[1] I see him having empathic powers, in that he senses emotions with a touch of telepathy so that he gets a clearer idea of what is troubling his flock.

Hey, noticed the thread and thought I'd pipe up.
The headmaster issue was already resolved (take a look at NPCs Collected), but the idea of a religious assistant headmaster (and wierd secret vatican operative) sounds really, really interesting to me.
Read the NPC thread, then come up with a name for this assistant headmaster and start a thread for him/her.

I'd like to take partial credit for the telepathic secret Vatican operative idea...
I'd also like to throw another idea out there. Many boarding schools have house mothers or matrons/house fathers/heads of houses. These may be members of the actual faculty who hold teaching positions, but they don't have to be. They're basically RA's who live in a suite in the dormitory, acting in a supervisory/disciplinary role. Does St. Joe's have such people?
