A Morning Annoucement (OPEN)

Post by Mimi »

The monitor flickered to life, and Mimi and the other students turned to look up at the screen, suspended on a bracket in the top corner of the room near the door. The colorful “SJTV” logo flashed for a moment, before jumping to the announcements screen. Rob Wallace’s massive form filled most of the screen, wearing a cocky and impish grin. He was leaning close to the camera in his trademark opening.

“Skittles!” Rob shouted gleefully, wiggling his eyebrows. He leaned back, away from the camera, so that the painted mural on the wall behind him came into view. The most visible part showed an image of Saint Joseph carrying the Calvary cross to the top of the hill, suspended in midair. “These are your announcements for today!”

Rob looked down and the sound of paper shuffling came from the speakers. When he spoke again, Rob’s voice was more serious. “First off, the administration would like to address the unknown party or parties who ran a field hockey skirt up the flagpole on Saturday night,” he said, leaning closer to the camera again, “we are not amused.”

Rob then settled into the standard fare for the morning announcements: what was for lunch, the clubs were scheduled to meet that day after school. Mimi zoned out. She caught Jesse making a weird face at her, and she wrinkled her nose at him. He laughed and turned away. Two rows away, Tolliver was tearing up a piece of paper into smaller squares. He crumpled one of the small squares and popped it into his mouth, while he reached into his jacket pocket and retrieved a plastic straw. Mimi surveyed his field of fire and made the likely guess that the back of Simon’s head was about to get a little bumpier.

“Sex!” Rob shouted, his face twisting into a grimace. His sudden shout had the desired effect, and most of the class looked back up at the screen. Rob settled again and smiled. “Thought that’d work. Now, we have a special announcement: Justin Sinclair, the CEO of the Wyvern Corporation, will be coming to SJS next week to announce his endowment of the school!”

A few more heads perked up.

“Everyone is staying pretty hush-hush about the endowment, but your old pal Rob has it on good authority that the Wyvern Foundation’s donation is definitely seven figures! So the real question is, are we buying a solid gold basketball court, or what? The speculations will have to continue until the announcement is made next week! Stay tuned! With your morning announcements, this is Rob! Skittles!”

The screen flashed back to the SJTV logo, then flicked off.

Mimi bit her thumb and thought. Seven figures. Millions of dollars. She looked around, and saw that she was not the only one who was stunned. Students whispered to one another in excited tones.

Why would Wyvern suddenly take an interest in the school? And how would SJS use a donation that measured in the millions?

OOC:

This event is happening. The school is recieving a donation upwards of 4 million dollars.

In lieu of a traditional poll, I thought we'd try a new route: please feel free to contiribute to this thread with conversations and stories about your theories and ideas of how to use the money.

As Rob finished the announcments, Krazy was thinking about what the school should do with the money. He was thinking it would be best spent on hiring a PROPER librarian........

Sitting half asleep in her seat and only half listening to the morning announcements Kali hears bits and pieces of the coming gift to the school. Students around her are whipsering back and forth about it allowing her to listen in briefly.

" wow.... thats really a generous gift...." she whispers back among the other voices.

Thinking of all the things the school already has , she ponders for a bit what else there was to offer.

Maybe a new cafeteria, some of those tables in there looked like they had been in one too many bake sale fund raisers.
Or maybe some new equipment for the art department! She had seen some of the artwork done by students and it was truely amazing.
"theyre gonna really have fun using this donation , think of all the things we could have now!" she whispers back to the group around her.

(( truthfully i dont know the first thing about building but i agree a cafeteria would be great for rp))

Palilla's eyes lit up, and to some extent glazed over at the thought of a fully equipped and outfitted Flyers Baseball team and stadium. But after a few moments of pipe dreaming, Paula snapped out of it. It would cost so much more than that to do it right. Sighing, she went back to her report on values, ethics, and morality. Stupid homework!
