Storm on the Horizon
Currently, there is a movement gathering steam on the Official CoX forums.
PvP'ers are clamoring to nominate an "unofficial" PvP server, just as Virtue is known as the "unofficial" RP server.
They have started a poll to determine a general course to take.
Infinity is currently tied at #1 with Freedom.
Obviously, this could have very real repercussions on our community and possibly even the future of the SG on Infinity. I encourage you all to go and vote on this, it should only take a second. Unfortunately, right now, a vote for any other server than Freedom is really just 1/2 a vote for Infinity (the other servers are quite far behind).

The villain sg my mastermind is in loves pvp and base raids. I bet they will be voting for here as well.
I don't care much for PVP, it seems too unbalance for 1v1 or even small teams, but I did enjoy the base raid I helped with on the villain side.

No, it's all unofficial and community-driven. It's fairly unlikely that all zones will become PvP. It's fairly unlikely that the devs will do much of anything in response to this, actually.MoonTide wrote:This may be a dumb question, but if the dev's take this as what we all want, does that mean all zones will become pvp? I don't care much for it myself, other than base raids are pretty fun.
Heh, yeah I guess I should click the link first, respond after. I thought this was on the main boards.cityofheroes.com site. I guess I didn't edit it quick enoughPsyrift wrote:No, it's all unofficial and community-driven. It's fairly unlikely that all zones will become PvP. Truth be told, Freedom really should be the PvP server on a few main points.
PvP requires actual player interaction. After playing on Alleria on WoW from launch up to before the cross server PvP addition, I learnt that being on a faction heavy server makes PvP very frustrating for one side. Now I know Alleria was a PvE server, but with battlegrounds it gave the same type of feel as CoX PvP zones. Instanced areas. Now the best example I can give would be Alterac Valley matches. Alliance would almost ALWAYS have a full 40 while Horde would BARELY scrap up enough to start a match, and if your lucky, they would get a few more to allow the match to keep going BEYOND the "not enough players match will end in 5 mins" warning. Now keep in mind with that queue system it was more frustrating since you would wait for like 4+ hours to get a match that doesn't even get played.
Granted that probably won't happen in terms of waiting, HOWEVER, one side being heavily outnumbered very well could. Infinity is a Hero heavy server, as such Villains would most likely get heavily aggrivated and most likely lose interest because they simply would get gangbanged due to numbers. As such, it wouldn't be fun for either side.
Freedom on the otherside is one of the bigger population servers, and if memory serves, much more balanced for both factions. This would in turn make it a better place to set up as the "unofficial PvP" server.
Second point is, Infinity has been kinda looked up on as the "baby brother" to Virtue in terms of RP. Another thing I learnt (when I spent a total of 3 months on a RP PvP server in WoW), is that RP and PvP are like Oil and Water. They just don't mix. I have NEVER seen such hated rivalry as the things that occurred over zone broadcast there. In short, it would be total anarchy leading to a LOT of flame wars. I won't go into much details but I think you can draw your conclusions. People who RP their toons hardcore, even building them to the concept would be heavily hurt in the PvP zones, and the PvPers would ruin the RPers interactions forcing people to either talk in /tells or in /team only.
Trust me its not pretty. Now I'm not saying that this WILL happen here, but it is a strong possibility. I really hope Infinity stays the way it is and Freedom is selected as the PvP server.
