Jacob looked up at Gemini who stood there smiling at him. She had an air of professionalism about her that was both reassuring and intimidating. Jacob quickly looked back down at the ground.
"So you're Jacob?"
Jacob nodded silently.
"How are you doing today Jacob?"
Jacob shrugged trying not to look at her.
"Marlowe said you were quiet. That's okay. Things will get less intimidating with time. Look, I understand your situation, and I've already cleared it with your parents so that you can stay here."
Jacob looked up at her briefly and then back down before he spoke, "Thank you, Ma'am."
"I realize this must be frightening for you but we're going to do everything we can to help you. I'm going to take you to speak with a lady named Valerie Atwood. She can help you."
Jacob continued to stare at the floor and said nothing.
"First though, let's go get something to eat."
Jacob looked up with a glimmer of joy in his eyes, "Thank you, Ma'am. I'm mighty hungry."

Jacob looks to be about 12 or 13 years old, but he's actually 15. He's fairly plain in appearance with no real distinguishing marks. His brown hair tends to be unkempt and hangs in his eyes. When he speaks it's in a quiet voice with a southern drawl. He's painfully shy and spends most of his time reading. He's not particularly smart or athletic. He gets nervous in crowds. He runs when faced with danger. He attends every Sunday mass and always carries a Bible with the rest of his school books.

Nigel turned to the rest of the group huddled around the corner of the building. The gangsters loading the crates into the back of their truck hadn't yet noticed them.
"Ok, guys. These guys are heavily armed, but we have the advantage that they don't know we're here."
The rest of the group nodded in unison.
"Ok, Kara, I need you to distract them. Sam, you charge in once they're distracted and topple their truck. Then Hellfire and I will... wait... where did Hellfire go?"
Just then a blazing trail of light flew over head as they heard a familiar southern good ole' boy voice screaming "Threeeeee!"
The rest of the group looked at each other pausing momentarily. Sam was the first to speak, "I wish I'd never thought of three..."

Hellfire and Jacob are two very different people only problem is they share a body. The doctors he talks to call it Dissociative Identity Disorder or D.I.D. There was some debate on whether to let Jacob into the school with the condition but in the end they decided to do it on a trial basis as long as he continued to see the school councilors. When Jacob started school he was painfully shy, but has gradually opened up to his class mates and teachers, though he still occasionally stutters or mumbles.
Hellfire is nearly the exact opposite of Jacob in just about every way. Where Jacob is quiet and reserved, Hellfire is in your face and a loud mouth. Where Jacob is still scared of girls, Hellfire flirts relentlessly with any girl who gets to close. Also while Jacob still can't even get a spark, Hellfire can't seem to shut the powers off and is constantly a radiant glow of pure sun core.
It's more or less common knowledge around the school that he has this disorder, and most have either accepted him, or avoid him because of it. He continues to see councilors several times a week. Other than that he's dealing with most normal teen stuff. Trying to stay afloat in his classes where he's got a solid C average. Getting up the nerve to talk to the girl he likes. Taking his small allowance and going to see movies and buy CD's.
Though he quietly celebrated his sixteenth birthday on June 4th he still only looks to be fourteen remaining rather short and slight in build. His hair still hangs in his face and he slouches a bit when he walks. He's usually seen wearing his school uniform, or a thermal body suit that Dr. Conrads put together for him.

Jacob's been coming out of his shell a lot more in the past couple of months. He's pulling a solid C average, has a growing list of friends, and even has a girlfriend now in Joni (aka Cryogene). Long ago it became common knowledge that Jacob has a split personality, but as of late the personalities are acting more and more alike. Jacob's been opening up and talking without stuttering as much. Hellfire's been calming down and not flirting with everything that wears a skirt as she walks by.
Also it's pretty well decided that Jacob is an orphan in some way or another. He spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at St. Joe's and seems to have adopted Sister Moltar as his motherly figure. Sister Moltar also seems to have grown fond of Jacob but she is very stern and strict with him. She has expressed repeatedly that he is not allowed to get a part time job because his grades just aren't where they need to be. Jacob is one of the few students who has seen a softer side to Sister Moltar, but she is still a very intimidating person and Jacob is far from immune.
As far as who or where Jacob's real parents are that remains a mystery. Rumors fly the gambit from dead, to in jail. There were rumors about him burning his own house down and the local church. Of course there are also rumors that his parents are super villains so they should be taken with a grain of salt.

A LOT has happened to Jacob over the past year so I will try to summarize in the interest of keeping things short and readable.
Jake's personalities were merged and his memories restored after countless visits with the school psychiatrists and other specialists. After this he spiraled into a depression and broke up with his girlfriend Joni. It took him a while to recover from that and eventually he worked his way out of his shell again.
The following Summer he was asked to try a foster home for a more stable home environment. He spent the summer with his foster parents who were youth ministers and had a special needs son who was about Jacob's age physically but much much younger mentally. Jacob came back to school a different person than when he left. He really liked his foster parents and even grew to like his foster brother.
He was almost in complete control of his powers and no longer really needed to attend St. Joe's but did so anyway as he only had one year left.
He built up a huge crush on Briana Landers who would not give him the time of day. He eventually turned to a magical spell to try to get her to notice him but screwed up the spell royally and ended up making the entire cheer squad fall madly in love with him. He eventually told the administration after some cheerleader's boyfriends beat the snot out of him. He has never touched anything to do with magic since. After spending a few months as the school leper most people eventually realized that he didn't take advantage of any of the girls (even when the opportunity presented itself) and that his intentions (while still not noble) were not nearly as sleazy as they had initially thought. He even eventually built an uneasy truce with Bri.
He and Ves started dating late in the fall semester and spent Christmas together with his foster parents. They had asked Jacob to be their adopted son and Jacob was considering his answer. He decided he needed some closure from his childhood before he could decide so he and Ves spent the first half of the Christmas break sneaking to Cotton Alabama, Jake's home town. He confronted his birth Father and Mother and learned his true heritage and that it was his father and not his mother who passed on his mutation.
Jacob eventually accepted his foster parents offer for adoption and during his last semester of school became a very outgoing and fun loving guy. He spent most of his free time with Ves and that year at Prom asked her to marry him. They agreed to a long engagement (until after she graduated).
Jacob Carpenter graduated with the class of '09 and is now working for Red Shift Deliveries owned by Mike Evans (another Alumnus). He has a small one bedroom apartment in King's Row.
