SJS Lexicon

Post by Mimi »

Here is a list of Saint Joe's slang and vocabulary that people might need to know. Feel like a cool kid and use the lingo!

This list will continue to grow, as people add to it and I edit it.

Annuus. The SJS yearbook. Everyone calls it the anus in quiet, giggly voices.
Flying Friar, the. The school's team mascot. He's gone from simply being a student in a brown robe (in the 1940s through the 1970s) to a big styrofoam headed costume, like some wierd "chibi-monk".
Go Flyers! The school's fight chant.
Mecca. The mathematics, engineering, and computing center (MECCa).
Mighty Crotch, the. The area under the Atlas statue in front of city hall in Atlas Park. Also sometimes called Atlas' Mighty Crotch.
Saint Joseph Flier, the. The school newspaper. Please note the spelling difference between flier and flyer.
Saint Joseph Flyers, the. The name of our sports teams. Please note the spelling difference between flier and flyer.
Schooi. A quick way to reference the second SJS supergroup.
Sveet. Good, awesome, cool, etc. It's "sweet" with a v. Long story.
Under the Yellow. The risers under the Yellow Line Tram in Atlas Park. A traditional meeting-place for students when the area in front of city hall (see 'the Mighty Crotch') is full of annoying people.

Players may also find this MMORPG Lexicon interesting and/or useful.

Whump, Whumpage. A slang way of saying you're busy arresting criminals, pondering it, or bragging about it. "I'm going to go whump." "There was much whumpage."
"So pay attention to me; I don't talk for my health."
"I want you on my team."
"... So does everybody else."

"Mez," "Mezz" or "Mezzing" usually refers to a general type of status effect that prevents you from taking meaningful action in-game. For instance, Sleeps, Holds, and Disorients in City of Heroes/Villains.
Origin: 1200–50; ME misericorde lit., pity, mercy, an act of clemency
misericordia pity, equiv. to misericord- (s. of misericors) compassionate
(miseri-, s. of miserēre to pity + cord- s. of cor heart) + -ia -y 3
