Golden Boy (Brandon Jordan)

"The key to a good start," he told himself, "is to know that you own the whole place already."

Brandon took a deep breath and walked onto campus as if he'd been doing it all his life. He strolled through the halls, his bag slung easily over his shoulder, and found his way to the temp dorms quickly. He'd done his best to memorize the map, so he wouldn't look like a total idiot.

Once he'd stowed his things and settled in, the next order of business was to find his classes. He spent that evening after dinner going through the halls of the school and finding exactly where things were. Other students were greeted with a friendly smile and a nod (perhaps a brief conversation, if the other student happened to be a particularly attractive female), but he didn't really slow down much as he scouted the place out.

Once Brandon had the classes firmly in mind, he ended up at the library. He found a copy of the annual from the year before and paged through it, paying particular attention to the names of the teachers and staff. It always made a nice impression to be able to greet a teacher by name. The fact that it might throw them off and make them wonder if he'd met them before was strictly secondary to making a good first impression.

Morning found him in the cafeteria early, and also early to homeroom. He stood in front of the class and introduced himself in a manner that implied that he spoke in front of large classrooms every day and twice on Sunday. "Brandon Jordan. Some of you might have met my sister Bethany; she and I just moved here from St. Louis not too long ago. Thanks for the warm welcome so far." He smiled that million-dollar smile (particularly at a couple of the really sweet girls) and sat down near the front again, ready and waiting.

Time to make some A's, in more than just classwork.

Brandon is very much the golden boy type. Third-generation hero, grandson of Rocket's Red Glare and Bombs Bursting in Air and the son of their daughter and another decorated war veteran, Brandon's always taken the family business very seriously. He'd never entertained any ideas beyond joining the military and saving the world once he got out of school. The manifestation of his powers has sort of made him question that for once, but he's uncomfortable with the idea of changing his dream.

Brandon is extremely driven to succeed, to live up to the golden-boy image. He's not faking it, but he certainly puts a lot of pressure on himself to seem perfect. Sports, studies, and girls are his main focus, and what little time is left over is filled in with extra-curriculars. He's the sort of guy who didn't manage to make Eagle Scout THIS year because he was in the hospital with pneumonia that he caught while helping stuff Christmas food baskets for the Optimist club. He's fine with letting his teammates have the glory on the football and baseball field, as long as he plays well and the team wins.

Brandon believes it all so deeply, and believes in his bright future so strongly, that his confidence often appears arrogant to those who don't know him. As far as girls go, I'm going for someone who's charming but not flirty. If that makes any sense.

The downside of all this is...Brandon is VERY driven. I plan to explore some of what happens when something throws him off his fast track to perfection. Glad to be here!

((i14.5 update.

Brandon's been through a lot in the last few months. His relationship with Del Sweetwater didn't work out, though he still carries some feeling for her. From there, he went on to an ill-fated friendship/something more with Aura King and then a brief relationship with London Zentaro. He and London remain friends, which is more important to him than he often lets on. A few months ago he began exclusively seeing Tempest Sage, and they have so far remained strongly committed to each other.

Brandon is slowly working his family around to the idea that he might not be joining the military when he graduates; his interests lie in other directions. With his grandparents' backing and blessing, he's currently taking art classes at the local college, focusing on sculpture after finding out that he has a talent for sculpting metal with nothing more than the heat that he can command. Several of the girls in his life have small medallions that he created from a handful of coins, showing their laughing faces. Brandon himself wears one of London's face.

He loves his patrolling, and even though he might not go exactly the same route as his father or grandfather, there's no doubt in Brandon's mind that he will eventually become a full-time hero.

Bran worries about his sister Bethany, but he's not sure how to help her most of the time. Right now he's just sticking with the "hide and watch" technique, helping when- and however he can.))
