Powerball!
The stadium was packed. It looked as if every last student in the school had shown up for the big game. Coach Waters stood on the side lines of the court a vague trace of a grin spreading across his lips. Tonight was the night. Coach Waters picked up a microphone and spoke, quietly at first but his voice picked up as the student who was running the sound board adjusted the volume.
"Check one, check one two, check one two thre- there we go! Hello everyone!"
The crowd cheered in response.
The coach smiled slightly, "Are we ready for some powerball?"
In response the crowd broke out in a roar.
Coach Waters grinned from ear to ear unable to contain his own excitement. The coach shook his head and let it hang for a second for dramatic emphasis. He then looked back up and shouted, "I said, are we ready for some powerball?"
This time the crowd's cheers could be heard from the parking lot. Scruffy looked up jumping slightly as he deposited some bags of trash into a nearby dumpster.
The coach motioned to the south entrance to the court "Our first team, lead by Damian Singleton and consisting of Roy Cale, Taylor Blevins, Nick Schneider and Casey Rein. Give it up for The Blitz Team!"
The left side of the stadium cheered, though a few on the right side cheered as well. Damian ran through the entrance arms up in the air. His team followed closely behind. Their black uniforms featured a jagged blue design with white trim. The team's excitement barely over powered their nervousness.
As the cheering died down the coach pulled the mike back to his mouth and spoke again, "Our second team, lead by Annamarie Knight and consisting of Malcolm Eades, Brandon Jordan, Matt Lamport and Arlina Rhys, give it up for The Cyclones!"
This time the right side of the stadium cheered. Annamarie ran in grinning her team quickly running up along side her their gold sneakers squeaking on the floor. They all smiled shifting nervously in their blue uniforms. Each one had a gold number on their chest.
The coach once again shouted, "Let's play powerball!"
The stadium errupted in cheers as the teams took their positions on the court.

Re: Powerball!
The coach walked to the center of the court. Matt and Roy approached him from either side. The coach smiled nodding at the two of them. "Are you two ready?"
Matt nodded, "Ready." Roy nodded in agreement as well but kept quiet.
The coach threw the ball up into the air blowing his whistle as he did so and backed up quickly.
Matt sprung up into the air reacting faster than Roy. Roy jumped after him but it was already too late as Matt knocked the ball to Brandon. Brandon took off down the court at blinding speed. Case quickly responded by teleporting Roy underneath the net. Damian followed quickly teleporting after him. Roy tried his best to block but Brandon was just too fast and scored a two point lay up.
Roy quickly recovered the ball and passed it to Damian. Damian took off down the court Roy close on his heels. The captain took the ball and pushed it out towards Taylor as if he was going to pass it but with a bit of a spark the ball winked out of existence and appeared in Taylor's hands. Taylor dribbled further down the court but Matt came up in front of him blocking him from taking any further ground. He quickly passed the ball to Nick who in turn passed it to Case. Matt watched the ball and barely noticed as Taylor dribbled around him. Matt looked up shocked as the ball disappeared from Case's hand and Taylor dunked the real ball.
Mal recovered the ball still trying to figure out what just happened. He didn't dwell on it and quickly passed the ball to Brandon. Brandon took off at lightning speed down the court once more. Roy out of nowhere teleported in front of him. Brandon quickly altered course moving around the stone figure before him only to have Roy appear in front of him again. This time he was already off balance and clipped him as he tried to dodge around him, only he noticed that he passed through harmlessly as he did so. "Nick..." he thought as he continued to barrel towards the net. Again Roy appeared in front of him and he charged straight through only to have Roy appear in front of him again. Brandon picking up the speed bounced off of the rock boy and skidded on his back across the court. Coach Waters blew the whistle and anounced a charging foul.
The coach collected the ball and passed it to Roy. Roy stepped out of bounds and on a second whistle blow passed it back in to play to Damian. Damian dribbled the ball down the court back towards his own goal but was cut off abruptly as a wall of water rose up in front of him. He was trying to decide the best way around it when an anthropomorphic bunny boy suddenly landed beside him and quickly knocked the ball from his hands and began dribbling it down the court. Case quickly spotted Taylor and teleported him to help guard the net. Matt ran up to Taylor who stood up straight and loomed over the bunny growling quietly trying to get those bunny instincts to kick in. Of course Matt had spent many hours on patrol and found very little threatening about Taylor's particular brand of wolfy "loom". He stuck out his tongue in response causing Taylor to break his concentration and blink a few times as Matt quickly jumped up and bounced the ball off the back board and into the net.
Taylor recovered the ball to the sound of singing. Figuring that Arly must be singing some illusions into being he quickly passed the ball to their primary defense against Arly, Nick. Nick didn't drive the ball down the court as Taylor expected however and instead slowly shifted back into Arly and split off into five duplicates each running a separate direction dribbling the ball as they did so. Taylor sniffed sharply a few times and pin pointed Arly's smell. He took off down the court beelining it towards the real Arly. Arly built up for her shot jumping slightly as the ball left her hands. Taylor quickly jumped around her side knocking the ball from the air and winging her as he did so. Another whistle sounded as Taylor cursed quietly to himself under his breath.
The coach lead Arly up to the free throw line as the teams lined up on either side. Arly stood their nervously dribbling once or twice. She suddenly felt as if everyone was watching her. She tossed the ball threw the air and watched in dismay as it bounced off the rim. She could hear the collective moan from the crowd. She gathered her wits for the second shot telling herself that she could do this. The net swished as the ball passed through and the crowd cheered.
Damian collected the ball and drove it down the court Roy fast on his heels. A second water wall formed in front of him at the three point line. Again the bunny landed beside him ready to steal the ball but this time Damian charged up a bit of static electricity so that when he reached for it he got a shock as if he'd been sliding on shag carpet all day and had just touched a doorknob. Damian quickly stole the ball back from Matt and passed it to Roy who was running up along side him now. Roy took off jumping through the air and plowing through the wall of water spraying Malcolm down as he did so. He soared through the air and dunked the ball from the three point line.
The buzzer sounded signalling the first quarter was over.

Re: Powerball!
Brandon shifted and popped his neck, giving Arly a high-five as she ran to her spot. He was used to the crowd, to the eyes being on his every move, and none of that bothered him. What made him nervous was the idea of using powers. He wasn't going to resort to his fire unless something very strange came up, but he was used to battling side-by-side most of the people on the court, not against them.
He had to admit it: it was a New Thing on a court, and the thought of facing the unknown (even the slightly unknown) really had his blood pumping. He winked at Anna and settled into his stance, ready for the second quarter.

Arly sighed as she sat down between quarters, popping open a bottle of water and taking some careful sips. She had to admit, there was a certain fun to getting to use her powers to play mindgames on her friends, and the faerie magic didnt seem to mind taking orders when it was being told point blank to cause chaos and mayhem.
She turned to her teammates, giving a thumbs up and a grin.

Re: Powerball!
Again Matt and Roy stood face to face and again Matt's superior reflexes won him the ball. He quickly passed it to Anna who dribbled it down the court passing it to Malcom. Mal blocked by Nick and Damian quickly passed it back to Matt. Anna extended her hands sending a burst of oxygen and energy Matt's way who suddenly felt quite rejuvinated. Damian tried to block him but was starting to feel fatigued from the game. Matt easily jumped around him dunking the ball as he did so.
Roy recovered the ball and passed the ball to Damian. Damian quickly passed the ball to Case feeling the fatigue creep up even harder on himself. Case drove the ball down the court and took his opening for a long three point shot but as the ball flew through the air it suddenly dropped to the ground like a ton of bricks. Mal stood there concentrating on it. Nick rushed in to recover the ball but nearly flipped over himself trying to recover the ball which now seemed to way over a hundred pounds.
Arly rushed in recovering the ball which returned to its normal weight as soon as she touched it. She flew down the court surrounded by flowers, sparkles and yellow submarines. Anna was fast on her heels sliding on jets of waters after her. Case teleported Nick across the court who appeared in front of Arly ready to steal the ball from her. The young girl realizing that her illusions would be of no good against Nick passed the ball to Anna who took a long three point shot grinning as it swished through the net.
Roy cought the ball and passed it to Nick. Nick in turn passed the ball to everyone. The Cyclones blinked trying to figure out which one was the real ball as the various Blitz team players attempted to catch various illusions. Only Case caught a real ball and he quickly teleported down the court toward the goal. Brandon and Arly were the first to notice him and Brandon quickly ran in front of him to intercept the ball. Case teleported again diagonally across the court only to be blocked off by a speeding Arly. Case saw Taylor hanging out under the net and tossed the ball his way who caught it in mid air and dunked it.
Mal caught the ball and atteempted to pass it to Arly only to see Taylor reach out and snatch the ball right out of the air. Taylor quickly jumped up and dunked it again.
Mal caught it a second time as the wolf-boy loomed over him. Taylor grinned a toothy grin daring him to try and pass it again. Malcolm shook visibly as he timidly held the ball out to him. Taylor grinned wolfishly as he reached for the ball only to have his hand pass right through it. He blinked trying to figure out what just happened. Meanwhile Arly was already half way down the court.
Roy suddenly teleported in front of Arly as she ran down the court. She quickly dodged out of the way only to see him appear in front of her again. The second time around she tripped and stumbled a few times as the ball went flying front her hands. Damian quickly recovered it and passed it to Case. Case lined up the three point shot and sunk it.
Mal recovered the ball and finding himself still blocked off by Taylor passed it to his left towards Matt. Anna quickly sent another O2 boost his way. Matt began dribbling down the court when Roy appeared out of nowhere right in front of him. There wasn't time to dodge so Matt instead opted to jump. He flew through the air over Roy's head who looked up astonished at Matt's quickness. Matt dunked the ball nearly from half court.
Damian recovered the ball and passed it to Nick. Nick immediately split off into six different Nicks dribbling the ball in different directions. Matt sniffed a few times and quickly bounded off in front of the real Nick. With a lack of options Nick passed the ball to Roy, and had Roy been paying attention to that Nick and not the Nick dribbling on the other side of him he might of caught it. Instead it bounced off the side of his head and in to Anna's open arms. Anna quickly jumped into the air and made a three point shot.
Taylor caught the ball and passed it to Damian. Damian drove the ball down the court sweating terribly as he did so. He passed the ball to Case who went for another three point shot only to watch the ball fall short again thanks to Mal. Mal moved in to recover the ball when all of the sudden flashing neon signs appeared right in front of him exclaiming loudly that he should "Eat at Joe's". Roy recovered the ball which had returned to its normal weight and made a quick layup.
A whistle sounded signaling the end of the first half.

Re: Powerball!
Brandon followed his teammates into the locker room, pumped. He said, "Man, great game, GREAT game. These guys aren't going to be the pushovers we hoped, but we're tough too. You're all doing an awesome job, just keep doing more of it!" He laughed with the exhilaration of testing himself against another team; it had been too long, even though football was a recent memory.

Re: Powerball!
Damian walked to the locker room entrance behind the rest of the team, looking on to them as they trotted through the open locker room door.
He wiped the sweat from his face turning to look up at into the stands, and he spotted her, "I knew she'd come." he muttered looking on to the waving Kena. He waved back putting on a fake grin as exhaustion still taunted him.
Slowly he trotted into the locker room behind everyone else.
The team sat down on the benches, wiping sweat from their faces drinking water and talkin amongst one another. But, for the most part, it wasn't too pumped to say the least.
"Whats the deal?" Damian asked as everyone looked up at him, "I'm not talking about with the game, we are doing good, those guys weren't going to be push overs and we knew that," he spat out. "I'm talking about this gloom in the locker room."
He looked around at the team as they looked away, or did what they were doing before he opened his mouth. He knew what it was, they were losing, hell he didn't like to lose himself. So, he did what any captain would do and tried to rally his team.
"Eh Blitz, we still have a second half to go, this game ain't over by the least bit." He said gaining their attention again. "We know what they are capable of, so now, lets go out there and take this game, its ours...and its been ours every since the team was made." He smiled as the team looked at him.
"We got this, don't hold your heads low, lets make them hold theirs low...ya got it, Blitz Team on three and all I want to see is some hard core ballin' when we get back out there, aight"
The team circled around Damian as he held his fist in the sky,
"Blitz on Three" Roy yelled. "1-2-3"
"Blitz" The team roared in unison.

Re: Powerball!
The coach once again tossed the ball into the air. Matt jumped first but this time Roy built stone upon himself and his arm seemed to grow two feet in length as he knocked the ball towards Case. Damian immediately teleported under the other teams net. As soon as Case spotted him he teleported the ball to Damians hands who immediately jumped up and sunk a layup.
Mal caught the ball and passed it to Arly. She ran down the court illusions of dragons, pink elephants and flipping ninjas bounced out from her as she went. She went to shoot but was blocked by Nick who remained unaffected. Nick passed the ball to Damian who passed it on down to Case. Case teleported to the three point line ready to make his shot when Brandon once again appeared in front of him. Instead Case teleported further down the court and made a successful two point shot.
Anna recovered the ball and took it down the court at blazing speeds. She passed it to Mal who went to shoot but missed. Roy recovered the ball and passed it towards Taylor only to see it stop half way there. The ball bounced itself down the court as Arly slowly came in to focus. She passed the ball to Brandon who moved in fast for a two point lay up.
Damian teleported down the court and recovered the ball and began running down the court feeling hotter, sweatier and more bedraggled than ever. Finally out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Anna focusing intently upon him. Suddenly he realized that it wasn't the heat that was getting to him... it was the humidity. Muttering to himself he passed the ball to Taylor who dunked the ball.
Mal recovered the ball and passed it to Matt who passed it on down the court to Arly. Arly passed the ball to Anna who went to drive the ball in for a lay up only to find herself blocked by Roy, Damian and Case. She quickly passed the ball sideways to Matt and turned into a spray of mist. She flew through the blockers and solidified herself just in time to catch the ball as it was passed back from Matt. She shot the ball from just behind their line of defense and the net swished as it passed through.
Roy moved in to recover the ball only to see it snagged up by Arly. She began to sing as Nick winked out of existence. She applied an extra bit of illusion to make her seem as though she was actually ten feet to her right. Damian suddenly teleported right in front of her and stole the ball. She opened her mouth in protest trying to figure out how he knew where she was. Damian teleported the teleport passed the ball to Case who turned around and sunk a shot from the three point line.
Mal recovered the ball and passed it to Brandon who immediately jetted across the floor. Suddenly the ground began to shake beneath him. Roy focused his energies causing a tremor beneath the teams' feet. The tremors shut off almost immediately as a loud whistle blew. The coach stepped forward and called a foul. "Tremors are off limits, Roy. I'm sorry. It risks damaging the court. Brandon, you can pass the ball back in to play."
Brandon stepped out of bounds and a second whistle blew. Brandon passed the ball to Anna who in turned towards Matt. "Heads up!" she shouted as she passed the ball. Matt caught it feeling a surge of energy rush over him again. He jumped across the court and dunked the ball.
Taylor picked up the ball and passed it to Nick who winked completely out of existence when Arly once more began to sing. Damian teleported straight to the three point line and turned making a sign. Nick passed the invisible ball through the air and Damian caught it deftly without a problem. Arly looked confused trying once again to figure out what was happening. Damian turned around to attempt a three point shot but found three blockers in his way. He teleported the ball so that it hovered just above the hoop. Mal looked up noticing it at the last second and jumped up knocking it out of the way.
Again a whistle blew.
Quietly the coach called the two team captains over. "There seems to be a bit of a problem here." Damian looked up already knowing what it was. The coach continued, "Technically once a ball is over the hoop you can't touch it otherwise it's goal tending. This brings up a unique circumstance. If the ball is teleported instantly above the goal and then no one is allowed to touch it without causing a foul there's a problem." Anna and Damian nodded in agreement. Anna looked up at the coach, "What's your ruling, Coach?" The coach thought momentarily and spoke, "We may change it if we do it again but at least for this game teleporting the ball above the goal is not allowed." Both captains nodded in agreement whether they agreed or not. He was the coach and you didn't argue with him.
The coach carried the ball back onto the court and opted to bring the ball back in play through another jump ball. With only a few seconds left on the clock for the third quarter they would have to act fast. Matt and Roy faced off once more. They both jumped and again Roy was able to knock the ball away from the rabbit. Damian recovered it and immediately teleported the ball above but directly to the right of the goal. Taylor jumped and grabbed it from mid air dunking it into the goal. Damian smirked feeling like the king of the world.
The buzzer sounded signaling the end of the third quarter.

Re: Powerball!
Matt and Roy faced off for the final quarter. Matt jumped harder and faster this time trying to outpace Roy's ability to extend his limbs. He managed to push it with the tip of his fingers barely knocking it past Roy. Anna caught it and drove it down for a three point shot but as soon as the ball left her hands it immediately vanished and appeared in Case's hands. He teleported down the court only to have the ball knocked from his hand and recovered by Brandon who passed it to Arly. Arly shot the ball which bounced off the rim and was quickly recovered by Roy. Arly started to sing and Roy found all of his team mates vanish off the face of the earth. He stood there confused unsure what to do, but the decision was quickly made for him as Matt knocked the ball from his hands and bounced it to Anna. Anna lined up a three point shot only to see it again teleported out of the air as it neared the height of the arch. Anna looked around cursing under her breath only to find the ball clear at the other side of the court as Taylor dunked it.
Brandon looked up at the scoreboard as the score went from the Blitz team having a five point lead to a seven point lead. They needed to recover some points and fast. He jetted down the court as Roy recovered the ball. Mal quickly passed it to Brandon who took off back down the court at a speed so fast you could barely make out any details. No one was quite sure what happened next but they all watched in awe as the score board began counting up very quickly. Damian was finally able to pin point the ball and teleport it away from Brandon but the damage was done. Brandon had scored shots in roughly one point five seconds.
Damian quickly port passed the ball to Nick who shot it and watched it bounce off the back board to be recovered and dunked by Taylor in mid air.
Mal recovered the ball and passed it to Arly and Anna shouted out, "Heads up." Arly took off down the field the O2 boost rejuvinating her as she did so. She began to sing and the crowd blinked as every last one of the player disapeared. That didn't stop Nick and Damian from appearing in front of her again. Damian teleported the ball from her in mid dribble and turned to pass it to Nick who winked out of existence and appeared at the other end of the court to make a two point shot. It was at that point that Arly noticed the clear ear plugs in Damians ears. Damian caught the expression on her face and smirked slightly at her before running back down the court.
Mal recovered the ball again and this time passed to Brandon who was at the other end of the court in a flash. He spotted Case focussing on the ball and quickly passed it to Anna before it could be teleported away. Anna tossed the ball over the head of Roy and went to mist her way around him only to be ported back to half court by Case. Brandon quickly recovered the ball and made a layup.
Damian recovered the ball and teleport passed it to Case. He then teleported to the three point line to have the ball teleport passed back to him. He went for the three point shot and Mal began concentrating and made the ball drop like a rock. Mal held a confused look on his face as if the timing was some how off. It was too late when he realized what happened. Nick had already shot the invisible ball and scored a two point shot.
Mal caught the ball and passed it to Arly who chose to ditch her illusions in favor of speed. She jetted down the court at an incredible speed passing the ball to Matt who jumped clear over Roy's head and dunked the ball.
Roy recovered the ball and passed it down to Damian. The ball disappeared in mid flight as Brandon came flying through and went in for another lay up.
Roy recovered the ball for the second time in what felt like an instant. He quickly passed the ball down to Damian. Damian looked at the clock. There were only a few seconds left. He looked at the score board which now ready Cyclones 61, Blitz 59. He looked down the court spotting Casey. He focused teleporting the ball to his hands. Case turned to shoot the ball. The buzzer went off moments after the ball left his fingers. Mal prepared to knock the ball out of the air when Damian signed something frantically to Nick. Nick nodded in response and focused all of his energy as the entire court went black.
The illusion of the darkness disappeared revealing the scoreboard.

Re: Powerball!
Brandon lined up with the others to shake the opposing team's hands. "Good game, good game," he kept saying as he shook. And he was serious: it was a hell of a great game. Neither team had anything to be ashamed of in his book. He kissed Anna and headed for the lockers, pleasantly worn out.

We'll leave all the baggage and start over there.

Re: Powerball!
The coach smiled to himself proud of what the students had accomplished. He watched as Damian and Annamarie stepped out into the middle of the court and shook each others hands. The rest of the team followed suit. It had been a fantastic game... and he thought that everyone there head earned the pizza that was being served by volunteer students. He walked up behind the two teams as they queued for the pizza.
"You played a great game out there guys."
"Thanks." Came the chorus of teenagers.
"I mean it. You showed a level of creativity that I wasn't expecting. You used your powers in new ways, but most importantly, you worked as a team."
They beamed in response happy at the kind words.
The coach smiled broadly at them, "Which reminds me, football tryouts are coming up."
Damian laughed, "Aw, geeze, Coach."
Coach Waters laughed, "Get some pizza! You've earned it!"

Re: Powerball!
As the shroud of darkness escaped the court Damian looked around to find his team mates, the basketball bounced a couple times directly under the goal then continued its course up the court to the center.
"Did it go in?" he asked darting his eyes towards the scoreboard, a smile shot across his face as he yelled, jumping into the air.
" We won Blitz, we won...that's what I'm talkin' about baby" He yelled running towards his teammates. Way to go, Nick, He signed to his friend. Just in time, just in time he finished.

Re: Powerball!
Nick stood in the middle of the court, breathing heavily, his body feeling like a ton of bricks. Wet Bricks. Wet Bricks in Mal's gravity field.
He had helped his team win. HE had helped a TEAM win a TEAM game. The idea that he could even work on a team, much less for sports, was a luxury he didn't think he could have. Falling to his knees on the court, Nick raised his fist to the ceiling, grinning madly and giving his silent roar of victory.

Roy let out a loud whoop when the Darkness cleared and the final score was settled. ((and I can't think of anything else to add o.o))

Re: Powerball!
Casey flinched when the darkness came over the court, and stood there a moment, waiting, hoping this was part of some kind of plan on the part of his team. He heard the ball sweep through the net, blinked, and as the darkness faded, looked up at the scoreboard, and then down at the ball bouncing off the court. "Huh," he murmured as the crowd cheered. Then he thought to himself, "D was right about practice, I guess."
