Kris swallowed this was bad. But she could say what their Task Force did, and what happened afterwards. Somebody had to know. And it was going to be messy.

"I need to start from the morning of the incident," she nodded. "I was initially supposed to be Doctor Green's patient. Doctor Howard Green. He was the only doctor outside of the influence of Arachnos who could help me. It was said that he was awaiting the go ahead from authorities on a full blown cure for Grier's Syndrome. But, I was supposed to undergo the Therapy Treatment, which is still a risky series of proceedures."

As she spoke Kris concentrated and opened herself to the three other minds there. It was difficult, but she managed to only get the doctor. That would have to do.

"Anyway, yesterdays headline read: "Miracle Doctor Gunned Down." I had to read it, and discovered that it was my doctor. That the Council brazenly and brutally gunned him down, just outside of his office. I panicked, and spoke to another person. They said there was a treatment that was banned due to the risk involved to the patient. Afraid of going insane and then the inevitable dying, I said I wanted to know what it was."

Kris went from looking at her fidgeting hands to looking the doctor in the eye.

"I was told that the radiation produced by a type ten treatment accelerator, like what Crey has, and is currently banned for use, or a Class C Nuclear Fission Reactor, like at Terra Volta could give the output of radiation needed to render the crystalic deposits of Grier's inert, and return my mental state to its original status. All I needed was a means to channel the power to my neurons. I had theorized that as an alternative, before even talking with the contact. They in turn sent me to Pu-244."

Kris swallowed as her mouth and throat went dry.

"I gathered with Pluto, Annie, and a couple of higher level guys, and we agreed to help Miss Hallaway with the security breach at Terra Volta. Annie had speach lessons to go to, so she left, as we entered the reactor facility. After dealing with the men responsible for the breach, Pluto and I stayed behind, and allowed our containment fields to expire. She tapped the core, and channeled the energy into the infected parts of my cerebellum. It worked."

Maybe she didn't need to go into too much detail, and have things explode. Maybe Kris could just get to the details that were being asked for, and that would suffice.

"So, later in the evening, I was having trouble dealing with my senses being deadened by the alternative treatment," she jumped ahead. "Annie was there trying to comfort me, when there started being too many people, and not enough information. It was like losing the ability to hear, or to touch. I fled to Astoria, to a thinking place I had there. But, they followed. It was during that time that Annie and I were seperated, and I came home... Or, rather, I fell asleep on the way home. The rest is where you come in."

The entire time Kris was speaking, Doc Syl was taking notes on her retreived tablet PC. She was frowning the entire time, not a common sight for a woman that was well known for her comforting bedside manner.

"Kristina..... I don't ever seem to remember you getting a medical degree in neuro-chemistry. And I'm assuming that you didn't run your theory past anyone that was accredited by the AMA? You're going to have to be out of classes all day, and I will also have to call Pluto in here so I can check to make sure that nothing drastic has happened with her. Radiation does strange things with engineered tissue, and I'm not going to let the two of you girls start sprouting extra arms in the middle of class!"

"Well, Doc, that's just it. I spoke with a few doctors, and they all said they knew some top notch facilities for me to go to, when I stopped being able to function in society. Weighing that against both a theory, and a prescribed course of action, I was, and still am willing to face the odds, rather than give up and die. Is that what everyone wants me to do? Just give up, because they aren't willing to see me die, and would rather send me to someone else so they can," Kris said, becoming a bit agitated. "Well, I'm not going down like that! the price has been too high!"

Tears welled in the teen's eyes. The scene played itself over in her head, and her heart felt as if daggers were cutting into it. And there was no way this woman could know the loss, the relief, the terror, and the general state of confusion she was feeling. The preasure built up, and the redhead needed to get it out.

"I- I have to go," she said, nervously. "I have to vent these bad feelings. I'm coming back. I promise."

Turning, Kris hurriedly ran outside, looking for a suitable recepticle for her dark emotions, the energy already starting to flow from her eyes like whisps of pink smoke.

She knew she was in trouble, now. Especially when Pluto's fate became knowledge to the administration. She was going to have to tell everything. She hoped Stasis was right, and that Pluto was really alive.

Finally finding an inanimate object she could affect, Kris vented the emotions upon the bench, warping and bending it, til it no longer resembled a bench, but modern art. That she could take care of. It might mean an end to her allowance for the rest of her teenaged life, but she could probably handle it. Looking at the bench, she chuckled at how it really symbolized her life, right now. Oncwe useful, but now, twisted and of little value. She was a lousy hero.

Arrow. What will he say? It's over, now. He'll never trust you again. Not after this. Why did I ever even try?

Pulling out her cellphone, Kris dialed her boufriend's number. How could she have let him down like this? Why did he care so much?

Doc Syl didn't know what to do at times like this. She had sworn that she would give the best care to these students as humanly possible, but maybe that was her problem.

She was just human. They were Superhuman, and some of them even more.

Walking to Annie's bedside, her tablet PC clutched in her hand like her own personal shield against hat was going on around her, Sylvia looked at the sleeping alien.

"Annie, dear, you need to wake up soon. I can't rush you, but it's looking like you have a lot of friends that care, and want to see you better."

Meanwhile, being announced in classrooms....

"Attention, please Students.

It has recently come to the attention of the faculty that Ms. Annie Dromida has just recently had an accident while in Dark Astoria, most likely patrolling there after curfew. While we don't have all the information yet, it looks like Annie was flying through the fog and was unable to turn in time to avoid a building that she was unable to see because of the fog. She is currently in the care of our own Doctor Sylvia Orson, in the Saint Joeseph's infirmary. We will also be holding safety lectures for all flying students in the auditorium at 4 pm, which will be mandatory...."

A Few Days Later...

Slowly, Annie opened her eyes, the pain going through her head was so incredibly heinous, she knew she could only be feeling it if she hadn't rejoined The Whole.

"<Cough... cough>"

Looking up from her desk, Doctor Orson saw that her patient was finally awake.

"Annie? Annie! Oh thank goodness you've finally woken up! How are you feeling, dear?"

Annie tried to focus on the strange words.... they sounded so flat... so....

"Methaaaaalla?"

Doc Syl looked at the girl and then remembered taking off the headband so she could take closer brain-wave scans. The poor girl had absolutely no idea what she was saying!

Holding her hand, Sylvia tried to give it what she hoped was a reassuring pat. "Annie, I'm going to get your translator. I know you can't understand me, but please stay calm!"

Dropping by between classeswas probably not a good time, but, at least Doc Orson could keep an eye on Kris this way, and let her know what sort of test they wanted to run next. Walking in she saw a nurse was busy with inventory, and made her way toward the doctor's desk.

"Annie, I'm going to get your translator. I know you can't understand me, but please stay calm," she heard the doctor saying behind the screen.

"Annie's awake," Kris asked excitedly, garnering the attention of the nurse, who ushered her back to the waiting area. "Annie!"

Kris concentrated hard, and it hurt a little, but she managed to send her intentions of good will and comfort to someone. She just hoped it was Annie.

"Annie's awake? Annie!"

Doctor Orson looked around the room divider to see Kris O'Sullivan being ushered to a chair by one of the medical students that had come to the Saint Joseph infirmary for an internship. It was Doc Syl's alma mader that had asked if she would be willing to take a student on for short periods of time, since Saint Joseph’s had a much lower incidence of Supervillain break-ins than many of the other facilities that served superpowered individuals.

"Kris? Is it time for our appointment already? You need to give me a moment here..."

Retrieving the headband from her desk, Doctor Orson walked past Kris quickly so Annie wouldn’t have to go too long without knowing what was going on around her.

Meanwhile, Annie laid back in the infirmary bed, trying to remember how she had gotten here, and looking around for the source the empathic projection she was getting.

"Doctor, is she okay," Kris asked as the woman passed by. "I'd be willing to help in any way, what so ever!"

Kris was a bit perturbed that her ability only pertained to emotions and concepts, instead of full blown telepathy. She supposed her aunt, Nieves was much more lucky than she was. Concentrating more on Annie, she sent out her feelings of joy and relief that Annie was okay, and hoped her alien friend understood.

Annie had her eyes closed as she felt the headband slip on, the noises and strangeness around her starting to sift through the translator.

She remebered the fog... she remembered flying after her friend, feeling scared that something might happen to her, but not understanding why she was so upset... she remembered Sapphire being sad, and she remembered D being... he was so cold that night, he was acting even stranger..... She remembered Siren, and she remembered her smiling as they talked together... she remember being scared... she remembered sitting on the roof with Amy and Kris, and being just another girl...

When Annie opened her eyes again, she tried to smile at the nice human everyone called Doc Syl, and looked around for anyone else she could recognize.

"I made a mistake again, didn't I?"

Obsidian Seraph arrived at the infirmary after practice, just long enough to check in on Annie, intending to bring her another Marigold and Oak leaf, and was excited and elated as he peeked his head in and saw that Annie was awake, even more so when he heard her.

"I made a mistake again, didn't I?"

Oby grinned and stepped into the room. "Nah, no mistake, but that building will think twice before jumping in your way again. That hard head of yours put a hole in the wall." He saw her brief look of confusion, and winked at her, letting her know it was a joke. "Couldn't let my star pupil rest alone, could I?" He walked up, and a brief smile and a nod from Doc Syl told him it was okay, gave Annie the Marigold and Oak leaf.

Kris could have sworn she heard Annie's voice. She saw how D had just barged in, and decided it was her turn. Standing up, she shot to Annie's side. Her friend was awake, and well!

"Annie? Hey," she smiled as she emanated more joy. "Oh thank heavens you're back!"
