Once you are comfortable and settled in, it's important for all new students to understand that SJS is a community built on shared ownership. That means that anyone in the community can add to it, make suggestions for changes, or contribute to discussions.
Want to make an algebra teacher? Do it! Come up with a name, and a personality, and post your creation in Supporting Cast. Need to elaborate about the swimming pool in the Athletic Center? Go right ahead, and post it in School Setting!
Only three things will ever limit your ability to contribute:
1. It's someone else's creation. You're not allowed to simply change someone else's piece of SJS, but you can suggest changes, certainly. That is why very few of the threads are locked. If we reach a consensus, then *poof!* your suggestion can become fact.
2. It contradicts something previously established. Your creation might be in conflict with an existing descriptive post, or even in conflict with the themes and goals of SJS. You'll find out pretty quickly if this happens. Someone will post a reply and say "actually, we already have two librarians" or "uh, sorry, but SJS is not a military base, and does not have turrets on top of the dorms". This should not dissuade your creativity, just remember that we have certain conventions in place that may not have room for what you want.
3. You don't feel like you know enough. Well, then, ask! We have threads like "Ask Mimi" and plenty of other forums to try to refine your idea before you post. You can even send off a PM to myself or a member of the Student Council with your idea for approval, if you are nervous about it.
