Stepping out for the day

Post by Star Flash »

Matt took a quick last look in the mirror and then went right back to pacing back and forth in the room. 'What am I doing exactly?'

Pausing at his own question, Matt stared back at his reflection once again as if it held the answer, 'Yea, you have no idea either eh?'

Shaking his thoughts clear from his head, Matt slumped down onto his bed. 'It can't be that hard right? Out for a meal, see a movie... Movie... Just how DID I fall asleep at the last one? I remember us going in, sitting down, it starting and then... End credits... Odd. Oh, what am I thinking...'

'Porting to his feet, Matt resumed his pacing. 'It really can't be that hard, I've read pretty much everything I can on this, sadly they all say be yourself. That I can do... I just can't explain about myself. Ugh... This is only causing me more frustration...'

Turning to face his reflection once again in the mirror, "What about you? You think we should just throw the whole promise away and explain everything?"

Matt stared long and hard at his reflection as if he would respond before he actually realized he said it outloud, "Ugh, I'm so worked up on this I'm talking to myself now expecting conversation!"

Matt made a quick glace at his watch and noted the time. 'Well guess there is no going back now.'

Grabbing his denim jacket and throwing it on, Matt turned off the lights in the room and closed the door before teleporting out.

'Ya know, I do that so often you think I'd get over the extremely tiny dizziness feeling just for going that extra distance instead of tiny hops...' Matt thought as he looked down the wing that held the girls dorms.

'I guess I'm early. Great, more time to spend with my thoughts...' Matt sighed as he took off his sunglasses and rubbed his eyes.

Matt was about to begin pacing again when he realized that he was now in a much more public setting. Turning to the nearest wall, Matt leaned onto it and threw his hands into his pockets.

'Well guess I'm waiting... No turning back.'

Summer looked into the mirror of her room, Quad Five to be exact. She twisted the capsule and a red stick came out. She applyed it to her lips and smacked them together. She pulled her hair back into ponytail but it was too short to hang down and spiked out instead giving her a female samurai look. She pulled on her red sleeves and threw her shirt of over her strapless bra. She pulled the strings tight on her sleeves and kept them that way. She pulled her pants up, they showed off her belly button.

Her gaze finally fell on her eyes for the first time, "He better not screw this up..." She thought, "I'll kill him if he screws it up."

She opened the door and stepped out in her now awkward feeling Converse Low Top all-stars. She looked to her left and then her gaze shifted to her right and Flash.

"You're early." She blurted out, "IDIOT!" She thought to herself.

She knew this date was in the air, the variables were half his and half hers, she was running through as many hypothetical situations as possible and coming up short, mind bobblingly short.

"Shall we?" Summer asked holding out her arm.

Matt stuttered for a bit but realized that Vigilance was only stating the obvious, "Yea, I figured I would wait for you here."

'What was I supposed to say again... Um... Oh yea, comment on her appearance!' Matt fumbled through his mental notes as Vigilance approached him.

"You look gre- erm, beautiful." Matt stuttered, 'Great one pal, any other things you plan to screw up today on?'

For a second Matt was left in a daze when he saw her place out her arm, but it came back to Matt quickly, 'Right, right, take her arm and lead her to where we are going. Good thing I did read those books.'

Looping his arm through her own Matt at first felt a bit awkward, but shrugged it off. "So are would you prefer the more scenic route, or the express form of travel?

While waiting for her response, Matt lead the two of them towards the doors exiting the building. 'Yep... No turning back now at all...'

Summer smiled, the guy was shaking like a life in the window and his hand was sweaty and clammy.

"All too perfect." She thought, "He's so scared, I bet if I ask him a simple question he'll probably breakdown. I guess I'll be wearing the metaphorical pants the whole time."

"Let's take a bus, I don't want you falling asleep again." She said poking him in the arm with her free hand.

'Kinda hard to fall asleep when I have to teleport us both, but okay we'll travel the normal way...' Matt thought as he lead the two of them to the nearest bus stop.

"I thought we would go for the movie first, any preferance to what we see?" Matt asked, noticing that the bus should be along anytime soon.

'I knew I shoulda researched more on movies that are currently being played. Ugh, this is not so easy as I first thought...'

"I know they're doing a special screening of Spider-Man 2 for a buck at the Asian theater cross town." Summer replied, "If we take this bus, we'll have a good twelve minutes to get popcorn, drinks, that sort of thing."

The bus turned the corner and Summer pointed, "The sign will switch to crosstown before you say anything about it being wrong."

The bus' sign said 8th street but as it rolled down the side of the street it shifted to Crosstown. Summer smiled, she loved it when it worked before her eyes.

As the bus came to a stop, Matt allowed Vigilance to enter the bus first and followed up after her. Tossing in the proper amount of change, Matt followed her to a empty bus bench.

"I haven't been on a bus since I was young. It feels kinda odd since I can just zip about where I want to go with a thought..." Matt commented as he looked towards her. "I think the last time I rode on a bus was a school trip..."

Matt was having a hard time filling in the silence of the ride. He liked just being there with Vigilance but the silence gave his mind time to wander, and allowing his mind to wander only brought up more things to be annoied with.

"Ya know, your the first person I met here at the school, but I don't even know your real name. Just as I'm sure you don't know mine. Besides, it would probably be better in public to call me Matt, then Star Flash, right?"

"It's Summer." She said sitting back, "You can call me that, or Vig but not much else."

The bus driver looked back at the two of them, "Lee's Chinese Theater." Summer replied.

He nodded and kept on driving. Summer twirled her hair. This guy had no iniative, he wanted to start it, he gave off all the signals, squirming, axiety and a slew of other tells but he didn't make a move, not a one. Why? Why didn't he just say something, is he litterally that scared of a girl that he loses his voice.

"Screw it." Summer thought, she sighed, "This isn't just odd to be on a bus, its the whole situation isn't it? No idea what to say, or do, worried if you're making an impression or coming off as annoyed. Scared and nervous but don't know why and all things in between because you, like me, have never been on a date which only amplifies the shaky quality."

"It's pretty natural, first dates are what everyone thinks is a first impression. Screw it up and it'll haunt you for the rest of the relationship, nail it down and you'll be like Will Smith in Hitch, man with all the connections and know how." Summer continued, "No one really knows how it will go until its over with and even then they're about as sure as Ann Hesche. When does anyone know if it goes well or not? Why can't people just act the way they are and not try to spruse up their image? They're lying openly to the others face and the other somehow thinks its okay because they're scarificing a part of individuality to satisfy the other's wants and desires."

She looked up at the ceiling, "Is it human nature? Or is it society that causes this problem? You tell me cause I couldn't figure it out."

"I wasn't aware I was trying to make a impression. I was just being myself..." Matt replied trying to digest what Summer had just said.

"Yea I guess the situation does feel odd since its something neither of us know what to actually do, but I think we do it because its partially human nature, yet society probably too." Matt explained quickly organizing his thoughts.

"Its human nature because every species on the planet has the overwhelming compulsion to make sure they appear their best in hopes of aquiring a mate above any other candidates. Blame genetics." Matt began.

Shifting in his seat he looked over to Summer, "But I guess its also society's fault since they always take the whole dating thing into such a huge deal. In countless books they tell you what to do, how to do it, and so on. Various magazines tear into the whole situation blowing it into a do or die scenario..."

Matt trailed off as he looked into Summer's eyes. "I guess we'll just have to wing it and see where it goes..."

She looked into those eyes, the words trailed off, she wasn't sure if he lost concentration or she did but who gave a crap, right? She leaned in to give him something special.

"Lee's CHINESE THEATER! Last stop!" The bus driver called.

"S&%^!," Summer thought, "Of all the god damned..."

The two of them sat up and got off the bus. The lights of the inner city shined and twinkled, people bussled back and forth on the perfect night. They were dressed nice and tastful. Everyone again putting on a good show for everyone else.

"This is a lot nicer than the dollar theaters." Summer said aloud.

"I'll say..." Matt muttered as he looked at the people all dazzled up.

Matt lead Summer over to the ticket kiosk where oddly there wasn't a line yet. He instinctively reached into his jacket pocket with his free hand and came across some bills with a note attached. Quickly stashing the note away, Matt pulled out a single bill. "Two for Spider Man 2."

"Enjoy your movie." The attendant replied in the most bored sounding voice as he slid the tickets over to Matt.

As the two of them walked into the theatre, "So what snacks did you want again?"

Unlike the line for the actual showing, there was a line up for snacks.

"Just a Soda and maybe a medium Popcorn." Summer replied.

She handed him the money and sent him on his way, "I'll save you a seat."

Summer navigated through the crowd and bumped into a girl with Raven black hair.

"Hey, watch where you're going!" She snapped.

"Sorry!" Summer said.

She lovered her hand and helped the girl up. She shot Summer a smug look and walked off in the direction Summer was heading with her nose up in the air.

"What's wrong with people in this city... its like a stick is up their ass all the time." She muttered.

Matt waited in line as patiently as he could, but being left his thoughts again he couldn't help let them wander. 'Well, this is going well I think... Much easier to just wing it then what those books said.'

Finally reaching the counter, Matt examined all the snacks available. "Two sodas and a medium popcorn."

"What type of soda?" The clerk asked as he grabbed two cups.

"Um..." Matt examined the softdrinks available and just went with the first one he saw on tap, "Coca Cola I guess..."

"Would you like butter on the popcorn?"

"Uh.. sure." Matt replied. 'I shoulda asked what she wanted more specifically...'

Paying for the snacks Matt made his way towards the entrance to the screening room. 'Shouldn't be too hard to find her...'

Lily rubbed her arm where the white hair chick bumped into it. She felt the slight pain get soothed away under her fingers.

"Damn, bitch needs to watch where she's going." Lily muttered.

She entered her theater and started up the stairs and took her spot in the center in the VIP section reserved for high paying people or in her case, being the Owner's daughter.

She wathced the white haired girl walk into theater, her nose crinkled at the sight of her. Unbelievable, she thought, she just keeps popping up!.

Matt headed into the main screening room and was slight disoriented trying to find Summer amongst the people. Standing around glancing from side to side he found her still standing in the aisle.

"I got the snacks. Any preferance to where we sit?" Matt asked, "I'm pretty sure you don't want to sit way at the front so that really leaves the back or middle."
