Pregame:
The coach had the team sit in the locker room surrounding him, in the middle of the room.
"Well, " He said, pacing slightly, addressing them, "here we are. Three games left. So far, we've been given gifts. The other teams have played Santa Claus." Coach Waters started to work up into another of his famous rants. "I don't want gifts! I don't want to be Mary Lou Who, waiting for Santa to bring a present!" He slapped his everpresent clipboard. "I want to be the damn Grinch! I want to come out of this locker room and steal all the Monarchs' damn presents! I want to send them away crying, because we stole their gift, and ruined their day!" The Coach grinned when the team roared.
Bryan Baxter stood and turned to the team, "Who are we!?"
"FLYERS!!" The team barked back, all of them jumping to their feet.
"Who!?" Bryan shouted as the team mobbed around him.
"FLYERS!!!"
"What are we gonna do!?"
"Ruin the Monarchs!"
Outside, the weather was crisp, but clear. The stars shone through the few clouds, and the lights blazed on the field, turning night into day, and illuminating the cheersquad. The cheer team made their way to the sidline in front of the Flyer faithful, turning flips, and tumbling runs.
"Let's go Flyers, crush the Monarchs!" The cheersquad exhorted the crowd. "Let's hear it for the Flyers!!"
The squad whipped the crowd into a frenzy with more acrobatics, and the football team took to the field to a raucous time.

Re: Flyers vs Monarchs Nov 7th
1st Quarter:
Biff Hannigan watched the coin flip in the air and land on Heads. The Monarchs won and elected to receive. "Tails never fails, my ass." Biff mumbled, as he trotted off the field.
The cheerquad watched as Sam teed the ball up and they turned towards the crowd crouching a bit and hammering on their thighs, in a makeshift drumroll. The crowd followed suit, and added a loud "Ohhhhhhhhh!" that crescendoed as Sam kicked the ball.
"C'mon Flyers! Let's go Team!!"
The ball sailed high, and long, settling into the waiting hands of Jimmy Tudor, who took off, full sprint. He'd barely had a chance to get to full speed before Lucas Alexander met him head on, with a vicious hit, that upended Tudor at the fifteen yard line. Lucas jumped up, with a roar, as the rest of the team showered him with high fives.
"Yeah, that's what I'm talkin' about!" Oby yelled from the sideline. He looked after Dar, and "Dozer", as they put their helmets on and made their way onto the field with the rest of the defense. "Hey, guys! Don't lose any money to the Monarchs. Nobody gets by!"
The two defenders, looked backed, taking a couple of hopping backsteps as they thumped their chests, grinning at Oby. It was a continuation of the game they'd played before practice during the week.
Dar and Damian became a two man wrecking crew anytime the Monarchs thought about running plays in their direction, stuffing the Monarchs on their first possession of the game. The pair came off the field, as the Monarchs got ready to punt, running towards Oby. Dar rapped Damian on the arm, and turned to Oby, holding his hands together, fingertips and thumbtips touching, forming a big 'O'. "Hey Oby, the Monarchs' bank account!" Dar looked through the hole of the 'O', "Zero account!" The three of them lined up and crashed helmets together, all smiles.
The punt drove Bryan Baxter back to his 30 yard line, and he took off, dodging and weaving his way to the Monarch 20, where the Flyer offense took over.
"Blue 16, Blue 16!" Reed called out the play, and dropped back, handing the ball off to Luke Bartel. Luke followed his blocks, and got free, facing only Monarch safety John Napoleon, before the end zone. Luke was looking to juke the safety, and cut left. He was bracing for a hit when Oby came charging over, blindsiding the safety, crushing him out of the way. Bartel practically marched into the endzone untouched.
After the point after, the ensuing kickoff pinned the Monarchs deep again. The Monarchs managed a first down, and looked for another, needing to complete a third down. Monarch Quarterback Nathan Lear dropped back and rifled a pass towards receiver Jimmy Tudor, the Monarchs' best receiver. The pass was high, and Tudor leapt to grab it out of the air. Damian Singleton nailed Tudor in midair, sending the receiver head over heels to the turf, far short of the first down. The crowd exploded their approval. Dozer jumped to his feet with a yell, holding his hands together in the big 'O' symbol.
"No money!" Oby yelled at him, from the sidelines. A few other players caught on, and yelled the same.
The offense got the ball back and worked it down the field again. They finally punched it in from the 15 on a pass from Stephen Reed to Bryan Baxter.

Re: Flyers vs Monarchs Nov 7th
Damian lined up on Tudor. He had speed, but Dozer was eady this time. The practice he, Oby and Dar had prior to their madatory practices, put some oil on his gears. So Damian wasn't as rusty as he was when he first got back to this position.
He looked at Tudor and smiled at him from behind his visor. It wasn't really at him, it was more at the "0" bet that they all had.
Dropping back Damian kept his eyes on the receiver and just as much kept his speed with him. Tudor turned to jump into the air to catch the ball.
"zero" Damian said under his breath as he connected with the reciever.
"You've been robbbed," Damian yelled as he held his hands together, making the "0" symbol ensuring Oby and Dar saw it.

Re: Flyers vs Monarchs Nov 7th
2nd Quarter
"Come on Flyers, give em no money!" Sam yelled to the defense.
It started as a practice thing, Coach Waters knew, but he liked what he was seeing. The team was playing together. Whether this 'no money' thing was the spark or not, he didn't care, the fact remained they were playing as a unit. Starting to Gel, instead of playing as individual players, they were starting to become the sum of their parts.
On the field, during the second quarter, the things didn't get any better for the Monarchs. Every yard they gained was hard earned. They were trying to get into Flyer territory for the first time in the game, a sustained drive seeing the Monarchs getting hit hard on every play. Henry Simmons, Monarch running back tried the middle to gain the 50 yard line, but Biff Hannigan was having none of it. He planted the running back well before the 50. The whole defense ran to Biff, making the big 'O' symbol.
"No money, Monarchs. You got nothin'!" Biff yelled, amidst head slaps and congratulations from his teammates.
The offense got the ball back, and moved swiftly down the field. The seemed to be able to run or pass at will They seemed unstoppable.
"Let's go Flyers!! First and ten, do it again, we like it!" The cheerleaders led the chant from the crowd, urging the team on.
From the five yard line, Reed handed the ball to DuBois, who hit the line hard, bowling over the Monarch safety, Napoleon, on his way to the end zone. Oby got up from the pile, as the referee raised his hands signalling the touchdown, and the crowd yelled loudly. Oby got up, dusted himself off and shoved the ball at Napoleon. "Welcome to Waterloo, punk."
Oby got to the sideline and was met with headbutts and hands clapping him on the shoulders. Dar headbutted him and grabbed his facemask, "Hey, Oby, their safety owes you a buck!"
The Monarchs got the ball, and again got to their own 40 yard line. Biff Hannigan huddled the team up, and looked menacingly at each of his defensive teammates. "No <bleep>in way do they get across the fifty to Flyer territory!" He held his hands up in the now familiar 'O'. "No money for those <bleep>es"
Nathan Lear called the play, and handed the ball to Henry Simmons, who no sooner got the ball, than Biff Hannigan wrapped him up and tossed him to the turf for the loss. They tried another running play, with equally dismal results. The next play, the defense knew the Monarchs had to pass. As the play stretched out, Diyar saw the halfback come to the side. Even though he had a clear shot at Lear, something nagged at the back of his mind. Screen play! That nagging voice became a shout, and Diyar halted from going after Lear, and backpeddled. Lear saw Diyar coming and attempted to lob the ball over Diyar's head, but didn't notice that Diyar had started back until too late. Diyar stepped in front of the pass, snagging the ball in front of Simmons. Nobody was between him and the end zone, and Diyar sprinted for the end zone, and the score. He flipped the ball to the ref and turned towards his teammates and the crowd, displaying the big zero sign with his hands.
Coach Waters watched, pleased, although he'd never let his players see that. Maybe once the game was over. Until then he wanted them hungry for more. This was the team he'd expected all year. They were still rough, but at least they were playing like a team. He looked over his plays. With a 28-0 lead, he went to a running game, to eat up the clock. There was no reason to run up the score, and embarass another team worse than was already happening.

"Holy cow! 28 to zip!" Sam reminded Bryan, as if he'd forget on the long walk back to the locker. She took a second to wave to Matt, Roo and Kara who were gearing up to take the field with the rest of the cheer squad. "Break a leg!" She called, wishing them luck.
"I'll break both!" Kara called back with a smile. They still had a second half to go, anything could still happen, but it was hard to not think about celebrating. She'd seen Tony in the stands, throwing up the horns for her each time the ball crossed into the endzone, and she gave him a smile and quick wave before heading into the lockers.

Re: Flyers vs Monarchs Nov 7th
3rd Quarter
The second half started with the Monarchs kicking off to the Flyers. Lucas Alexander took the ball and started left. He was hit hard at the Flyer 25, but somehow managed to escape the pileup. He kept running across the 50, and cut back to avoid a tackle. He planted a stiff arm to the Monarch kicker, and kept going. The kicker slowed him down just enough for the pursuit to catch him at the Monarch 35 yard line.
"So close! And you got slowed by a kicker?" Bryan Baxter joked.
"Hey! I heard that!" Sam yelled
The offense took the field, and Stephen Reed had them in the huddle. "Coach wants to run, and eat up clock. Let's get to it. Trips left, pro set, half back blast, on two." The team broke the huddle, and lined up the play. Three receivers to the left (trips left), with Oby, and Luke lined up behind Reed (Pro set), Reed called the cadence and snapped the ball. Oby rushed past him, and straight to the hole opened by the line, and Bartel followed him (half back blast). Oby slammed into the middle linebacker, letting Bartel get free for a few more yards.
Oby helped Luke off the ground, "No way is this going to eat up much time if they can't stop us."
Five plays later, the Flyers had the ball, 2nd and goal to go from the 3 yard line. The offense lined up, packing the middle up for the run, and the defense put their strength in to stop it.
"You can't stop us, Monarchs, you might as well just let us in."
"Watch us freaks. If it weren't for your powers, you wouldn't stand a chance. No way is your coach stopping you from using them. You're all just a bunch of cheaters."
Reed called for the ball quickly, before things got out of hand. Oby and Bartel slammed into the line, and the defense smashed in, stopping them before the goal line. Unfortunately for the Monarchs, neither of the running backs had the ball. Stephen Reed rolled out to the left, with nobody in front of him, and he could have walked into the end zone.
"Hey Ref! The big one there was using his powers, I saw it!" One of the defenders yelled
"Yeah right. Nobody needs powers to run through your paper defense." One of the Flyer players yelled back.
The ref stepped in. "Enough. We know the Flyers aren't powered. Anymore of this kind of garbage, and players are going home early. Do I make myself clear?" The players from both sides grumbled their assent.
The Monarchs got the ball back, and once again couldn't do anything with it. The Flyer defense was playing the way that Coach Waters expected them too. Granted the Monarchs were near the bottom of the league, but the Flyers were playing well together for the first time this year.
After a Monarch punt, the Flyers were moving the ball slowly up the field, starting from their 5 yard line. They'd reached their own 40 with a steady running attack, but were facing a 3rd and long, after a holding penalty set them back 10 yards. Reed called for the ball, and stepped back, looking for Brandon, the Flyer tight end. The Flyer blocking broke down, as they were surprised when the Monarchs blitzed. He spotted Brandon and cocked his arm to fire, and got hit from the blindside just as he released the ball. The ball went almost straight up in the air, and as luck would have it, straight into a Monarch lineman's hands. He was so startled, at first, that he almost dropped it, but held on as the Flyers gang tackled him. The Monarchs mounted enough of an offense to get the ball to the Flyer 20 before the quarter ran out.

Re: Flyers vs Monarchs Nov 7th
The fourth quarter opened with the Monarchs trying to drive after the interception. With the ball on the 20, Lear stepped back to pass, rifling a ball towards the end zone and Jimmy Tudor. Tudor raced to the corner of the end zone, outstretching his sure hands to haul in the pass for the touchdown. Lucas Alexander had something to say about all that. As the ball touched Tudor's hands, Alexander lowered his shoulder and hit Tudor. At the same time, he chopped an arm across Tudor's forearms. The collision shoved Tudor out of bounds, and the sharp blow across his arms caused Tudor to juggle the ball, slightly. One ref threw his arms up in the air signalling touchdown, while the other waved his arms, signalling incompleted pass. The refs conferred, and the crowd quieted. The fans and cheerleaders all waited on the sidlines, and the players all waited on the field. The head referee finally signalled no catch. The crowd erupted in cheer, and the defensive players on the field held up the zero for everyone to see.
Kara caught onto the signal and quickly got the cheerleaders to face the crowd. All of the cheerleaders raised their hands above their head, fingers circled in a zero, and began to rock the zero back and forth over their heads. Pretty soon the crowd caught on, and the players on the field caught sight of the bulk of the crowd displaying the "no money" signal.
Bryan looked at Oby, "Do they even know what that means?"
Oby shrugged, "I dunno."
The missed touchdown, forced the Monarchs into a field goal attempt. The kick looked like it might have been tipped, but still managed to wobble through the uprights.
The kickoff pushed Bryan back into the endzone for a touchback, giving the ball to the Flyers on their own 20. The Flyer offense took the field, and Reed called the play in the huddle. "Coach wants us to keep it on the ground and eat up the clock." That's exactly what the Flyers did, marching steadily up the field, only throwing the ball 3 times during the drive. The drive finally stalled at about the Monarch 22.
"Douglas, Field goal." Coach barked out.
Sam trotted out on the field, "Hey, I finally get to do something!" she joked, knowing that if the team was scoring, and she wasn't kicking field goals, that was definitely a good thing. She lined up the kick, and put it through the uprights, for another Flyer score.
The Monarchs got the ball after the kickoff, after a decent return to the Monarch 28 yard line. Biff Hannigan called the defensive play and started to move around at the line, jawing at the Monarchs, "You <bleep>es got nothin'. Try and bring it, and we'll bring the pain. No money for you idiots!" The play was started and a run to the left started. Biff moved along the line of blockers trying to find an opening for the tackle. One of the Monarch linemen cut back and hit Biff behind the knees, and he went down. Lucas Alexander filled the hole and stopped them for a short gain. As the pile up was stripped away, Biff lay on the ground holding his leg, grimacing in pain. Dar shoved the lineman that threw the block on Biff, and some shoving and pushing started, but the referees stopped it, quickly.
"That was an illegal block, Ref. He did that to hurt him." Dar shouted
"What's the matter, freak, can't take hits without your powers on?"
The two teams barked back and forth a bit after that, while the trainers looked after Biff. After a short while, Biff managed to leave the field under his own power, limping slightly. He reentered the game a few plays later, and looked at the lineman that had chopped him.
"Yer dead meat! I'm gonna hit you so hard, your granparents will feel it."
The play started and true to his word, Biff went stright for the lineman. He levelled a hit that caught the Monarch at chest level and caused the other boy topple backwards. As they fell, Biff fell over the top of the lineman, and right into the running back, dropping the back for a loss. As Biff got up, he planted a hand on the lineman's helmet. A yellow flag flew.
"What?!! Oh, come on, you've got to be kidding me!!" Biff raged at the referee.
"Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Defense. 15 yards, first down."
Coach Waters and the rest of the team couldn't believe what they'd just seen. "You're out of your mind, ref!" Coach Waters exclaimed. "That was as clean a hit as there is in football. All he was doing was getting up. You can't call that!"
Once things settled back down, the defense got set for another stand. Lear handed off to Simmons, who tried to run wide. Dar sniffed the play out early, and watched for a gap in the blocking, and found it. He used a quick burst of speed and lowered his shoulders, catching Simmons shoulder to shoulder. The collision stood the running back up, and Dar swung an arm, chopping at the ball. Simmons clutched tightly, and continued to drive forward, but Dar had a hand on the ball, and ripped at it. The ball spun in Simmons' hand and popped free.
"BALL!!" Dar yelled, letting his teammates know that the ball was loose. Bodies dove at the ball, and the oblong squirted free of the pile, bouncing erratically along the ground. A Monarch player reached for it, but Biff Hannigan came flying across and collided with him, knocking him away fromt he ball. Damian dove at the ball, but it bounced out of reach. Dozer started to get up, and the ball struck someone's leg and rolled back towards him. He fell flat on the ground, circling the ball with his arms, and pulling it in to his gut, bracing himself for the mass of bodies that now fell atop him. The crowd waited as the refs pulled bodies off of the pile. When they got to the bottom, Damian stood and raised the ball over his head, as the refs signalled first down for the Flyers.
The Flyers again stuck with the running game, eating up more clock. The drive stalled at about the Monarch 25 with a little over a minute to play.
"Douglas! Field Goal!"
"All this action in one quarter? Sam, you sure you're not going to need oxygen?"
"Can it Baxter. That'll cost you an extra 15 at practice."
"Ah, he does care." Bryan said softly
"What was that?! "
"Nothing, Coach!"
The field goal was good, and left the Monarchs with no time to mount any kind of drive down the field.
